Our Turtle Awareness Event was a huge success! 🐢 Families enjoyed crafting and painting while learning about responsible turtle care and the importance of protecting our two native box turtle species. We had the opportunity to answer many community questions and share ways everyone can help support local wildlife. Thank you to everyone who joined us this morning!

Nature Friends hit the trail today at the Buffalo Soldier Trail, hiking a full mile and soaking in the signs of spring all around us.

After our hike, we gathered to review Leave No Trace principles and talked through how our choices impact the environment. To bring it to life, students created a “trash timeline,” comparing how long different items take to decompose. Seeing those timelines side by side really helped make the impact of litter more real and memorable 🗑

It is National Kids Fitness Day! Nature Friends is all about encouraging an active lifestyle for our members. We do pre-hike stretches, casual to challenging hikes, climb boulders, and carry our heavy buckets of rocks.

SATURDAY!! Come learn about turtles and tortoises from our youth! We will have live turtles and tortoises to pet and feed, face painting, and activities like bracelet making and painting a ceramic turtle.

Nature Friends x DAVA teamed up to host a community seed library build at El Parque de Alegre. Youth and and their families worked to build, paint and stock little seed libraries for parks and community centers throughout Dona Ana County. We hope to inspire the community to become food resilient! Exact locations will be posted soon.

Nature Friends was proud to take part in the Keep Las Cruces Beautiful
initiative, working together to care for our community. Our group focused on cleaning up North Las Cruces Park, where youth and families rolled up their sleeves and collected trash to help restore the space for everyone to enjoy.

We’re thankful to J.T. at Domino's Pizza for keeping our cleanup crew energized with pizza, and to Miss Daisy of the Girl Scouts of the Desert Southwest for donating cookies as a well-earned sweet treat. It was a meaningful day of service, teamwork, and stewardship.

Our Migration Monitors took a closer look at one of nature’s most impressive tools this month… feathers 🪶

Through hands-on exploration, kids discovered how feathers help birds survive and thrive. They tested how feathers repel water and learned how their structure supports flight.

We brought those ideas to life with creative feather-inspired projects, then headed out for a walk in the Bosque to see what we could find in the wild.
