Otis – A True Before-and-After Story

The difference that love, dedication, and a second chance can make is truly incredible.

When Otis came to us from the shelter at only about a year old, he was in heartbreaking condition. He was severely malnourished and emaciated—you could see every bone in his body. His future was uncertain, and there were moments when we weren't sure if he would make it. But Otis had something special: he was a fighter.

Despite everything he had been through, he never gave up. We couldn't give up on him either. We took a chance on Otis, and it turned out to be one of the best decisions we've ever made.

As he began to recover, Otis showed us who he really is. Beneath his fragile body was the absolute sweetest dog imaginable. He quickly stole the hearts of everyone he met and became a favorite among our volunteers. His gentle nature, loving personality, and resilient spirit made him impossible not to adore.

Today, Otis is a completely different dog. Thanks a month of care, proper nutrition, and endless love, he is healthy, happy, and thriving. His bloodwork is normal, his body is strong, and he has overcome every challenge that stood in his way. He has left the hardships of his past behind and is ready to embrace the bright future he deserves.

We love Otis more than words can express, and while we will be incredibly sad to see him leave, we couldn't be more excited for him to begin the next chapter of his life with a family of his own.

Otis is now available for adoption, and we are accepting applications at www.mysaltydog.com.

If you're looking for a loyal companion with an inspiring story, a heart of gold, and so much love to give, Otis may be the perfect addition to your family.

His journey is proof that sometimes all it takes is a second chance for a life to be completely transformed. ❤️🐾

How do we have SO MANY GOOD DOGS RIGHT NOW?

Seriously, sometimes we feel so lucky to be on this journey because of the incredible dogs we get to meet and help find their furever homes.

Dobby- Dobby is a 6 month old puppy that we cannot figure out why we still have. He is such a goober! He full nose dives into his bowl, he loves to lick your face all over, and is just a 10/10 good boy. The perfect dog for someone who wants a puppy but doesn't want the puppy problems!

Bandit- Bandit is new to the rescue and is also 5 to 6 months. This sweet little guy was so scared at the shelter and appears not to have been socialized, but he is very brave and learning more by the day! He gets along with everyone!

Otis- Poor Otis is only a year old, yet came to us extremely emaciated. He has been through a lot in his short life, yet he continues to remain sweet and kind. He does full body wags when he meets anyone. He is also a rescue favorite and many volunteers are threatening to keep him so you better act fast!

Leia- Princess Leia is truly a queen. She only has 3 legs but she does not let that stop her! She is about 8 months old, and such a good girl. She is still a puppy so will need minor corrections, but not many. She is pretty amazing and so full of joy!

Duke- Duke is a 8 month old lab mix. He has lots of energy so would do best in a yard, but is not destructive and one of the few dogs we have met who has never had an accident in a house. He is a great dog and looking for a great home.

Bessy- Bessy is a 2 to 3 year old boxer mix with all of the personality! If you want a dog that will keep you laughing she is your girl! She would do best in a home without small children and an experienced handler.

Rip- *adoption pending* Rip is a 3.5 year old Bernese Mountain Dog. He is an absolute joy and we are so lucky to have him! He loves everyone and everything! Experienced Berner home preferred.

Please put in an application at www.mysaltydog.com for any of these dogs! We are blessed to be on their journey with them and would love to show you how great they are!

How has it already been two weeks since her amputation surgery?!

We took Princess Leia out of the shelter just after her surgery. She laid awake all night crying in pain, and we knew we had to get her to a home ASAP to recover and learn how to adjust to life as a tripod.

After two weeks of recovery, you would never be able to tell! She gets around great on three legs, her stitches are out, and she is ready for her new home!

Leia is about 8 months old and missing her front left leg. She loves to play and to cuddle. She has a BEAUTIFUL brindle coat and will make an amazing dog for someone.

Please put in an app for Leia today! Her application can be found at www.mysaltydog.com!

Highlighting a great dog at a rural shelter!

Leo is almost 100 lbs of pure baby! He is a fixed 2 year old great dane/shepherd mix.

He is located at Highlands Animal Services not far from Miami/Ft Lauderdale, and is a favorite of everyone who goes there. Unfortunately some people are intimidated by his size, but he is a sweet sweet boy!

Best of all, his adoption fee is only $5! If you are looking for a large breed dog, head to Highlands tomorrow when they open!

Tonight we have some devastating news to share.

While Peggy's amputation surgery went well, unfortunately late this evening she developed a blood clot. We attempted lifesaving measures immediately but were unable to save her.

We are doing a post in her honor of her exactly how she would have wanted it... with her doing her favorite activity of rolling on the grass.

Peggy was an amazing dog, and while we only had her a short time, we all fell absolutely in love with her.

We will see you on the other side of the rainbow bridge Peggy. You were our dog even if you were only ours for a short time. We are so sorry we could not give you more chicken or forehead kisses. But we will carry you with us forever.

🤎 BESSIE 🤎

Bessie almost lost her life because people thought something was wrong with her.

When she entered the shelter, she was showing neurological symptoms and was diagnosed with ataxia and a concerning heart murmur that staff believed would make surgery unsafe and lead to lifelong medical issues.

But that wasn’t the real story.

What no one realized at first was that Bessie had likely been beaten before arriving at the shelter, and the trauma she experienced caused temporary neurological symptoms. Once she was safe, loved, and properly evaluated, it became clear that Bessie was going to be just fine. ❤️

Since entering rescue care, Bessie has been:
✔️ Spayed
✔️ Microchipped
✔️ Fully vaccinated
✔️ Cleared and ready for adoption

And now her true personality is shining through.

Bessie is a total cuddle bug who LOVES her people. She adores dog friends, enjoys playing, and has the goofy, silly personality boxer lovers know and adore. She’s medium energy — happy to play, happy to snuggle, and always entertaining with her funny antics. 😂

Bessie does have some reactivity toward squirrels and fast-moving outdoor distractions, so she wears a basket muzzle on walks to help manage that safely and successfully. She walks well with it, and it allows people to confidently take her out without worrying about reactions.

Because of this, Bessie would do best with:
✨ An experienced dog handler
✨ Someone familiar with boxer breeds
✨ A structured, loving home that understands reactive dogs

And in return? You’ll get an incredibly loving, loyal, hilarious best friend.

Bessie survived trauma, heartbreak, and being misunderstood. Now she’s ready for the forever home she always deserved. 🐾

Bessy is a 2 or 3 year old Boxer mix. Her adoption fee is waived with $100 credit towards helping her get settled in her new home! Her adoption application can be found at www.mysaltydog.com

⚡️ DOBBY IS A FREE ELF ⚡️

Dobby has been given a sock… and freed from the shelter! 🧦

Now this adorable little house elf is searching for the wizarding family of his dreams. 🪄

At only about 6 months old, poor Dobby spent far too much of his puppyhood growing up in a rural shelter. He waited there for over a month and a half — which is a HUGE portion of a puppy’s life. No baby should spend their growing-up days in a shelter kennel.

But despite all of that, Dobby is still the sweetest, happiest little puppy imaginable. ❤️

✨ Sweet and loving
✨ Playful puppy energy
✨ Adorable house-elf ears
✨ Ready to devote himself to his humans

Dobby will be getting fixed on Wednesday, May 20, and will be ready to go home on or after Wednesday!

If you’re looking for a loyal little sidekick who will happily serve as your personal house elf (minus the cleaning magic), Dobby is your guy.

⚡️ Apply to adopt Dobby at: (http://www.mysaltydog.com) ⚡️
