🚨 SMALL DOG ALERT 🚨

We have FOUR adorable Chihuahuas joining the Salty Dog Rescue family, and we have a feeling they won't be available for long! ❤️🐾

Meet the brothers:

🤎 Butch – 2 years old, sweet, quiet, and a true gentleman. He's the more refined of the pair and would love a cozy home where he can relax and be your loyal sidekick.

🤎 Boss Hog – 2 years old and FULL of personality! Boss Hog has never met a stranger and believes he is approximately 100 pounds… despite only weighing about 10-15 pounds. 😂

These boys landed on the euthanasia list after they chased and attacked a chicken on the ranch they lived on, so we know one thing for sure…

🐔 NO CHICKENS FOR THESE BOYS! 🐔

We are calling them the failed chicken assassins, because fortunately for the chicken it survived. Unfortunately for these guys, they ended up on the euth list at a county shelter.

Otherwise, they are sweet, loving little guys with classic Chihuahua personalities. They would make wonderful companions and are perfect for someone looking for a smaller dog that doesn't need marathon walks every day.

And then there are our two tiny babies… 🥹

💛 These 12-week-old Chihuahua mix puppies were found abandoned in a ditch along with three siblings who are still being searched for. We are hopeful the remaining babies will be caught soon.

Having had very little human interaction, these pups are understandably shy and are still learning that the world is a safe place. Despite that, they are incredibly sweet, absolutely precious, and are already beginning to blossom. With a little patience and love, they are going to make amazing companions.

✨ All four dogs are being spayed/neutered Thursday and will be fully vaccinated, microchipped, and ready for their forever homes!

⚠️ Little dogs are in HIGH demand in Brevard County, and these cuties are going to go fast.

If you've been thinking about adding a small best friend to your family, don't wait!

🐾 Apply today at www.MySaltyDog.com

Because the best things really do come in small packages. ❤️

💔 We have an urgent plea for sweet Maple. 💔

When Maple's owner left her at the shelter, she sat patiently and quietly, waiting for someone to come back for her. She was such a good girl that we simply couldn't leave her behind. We brought this beautiful 2-year-old Black Lab mix to Brevard County to give her a second chance at finding the forever family she deserves.

Today, we received some unexpected news: Maple tested positive for heartworms.

The good news? Maple is otherwise perfectly healthy, showing no symptoms, and heartworm disease is highly treatable.

We desperately need a long-term foster by next week to help Maple through treatment.

🐾 About Maple:
• 2 years old
• Completely housebroken
• Exceptionally well-behaved
• Loves lounging around the house with her people
• Calm, affectionate, and easygoing
• Has lived with other dogs her entire life and would likely enjoy a canine companion

🩺 Heartworm Treatment Facts:
• Heartworm is NOT contagious to people or other pets
• Maple cannot "give" heartworms to another dog
• Treatment is straightforward and highly effective
• The treatment consists of two series of injections given about a month apart
• Between treatments, she simply needs a calm environment and crate rest to allow her body to heal safely
• Since she's not showing any symptoms, you'd never know she has heartworms

Maple doesn't need a medical expert. She just needs someone willing to give her a safe, quiet place to rest while she receives treatment and waits for her forever home.

The cost of heartworm treatment is approximately $700 per dog, even with our rescue discount. We have started a fundraiser for Maple, and any donation—big or small—will help give this deserving girl the care she needs.

❤️ If you can foster Maple, adopt Maple (we would cover the cost of treatment), donate toward her treatment, or simply share this post, please reach out.

After everything she's been through, Maple deserves a happy ending. Let's show her that being left behind isn't the end of her story.

Maple is loving being in her foster home!

We always talk about the 3-3-3 rule but Maple may be the biggest example of this.

Day one, she would walk around crying. Day 2 she was withdrawn. Day 3 she started to zoomie.

It is stressful for dogs coming out of shelters. They left everything they ever knew and ended up in a loud place with dogs barking. Then they are taken somewhere completely different and expected to adjust.

Give your dog a break and some breather room. Let them take it in day by day. And show you how wonderful they are ♥️♥️

We love you Maple!

Maple is a 2 year old black lab mix. Her application can be found at www.mysaltydog.com!

🐾 Looking for the perfect age dog? We have SO many amazing puppies and young dogs in rescue right now, and honestly, they're at that sweet spot age that everyone dreams about.

They're old enough to start settling into a home, building routines, and succeeding with potty training, but they're still young enough that you get to experience all the fun of watching them grow up and become part of your family. ❤️

Meet some of our incredible adoptable dogs:

**Bandit** (6-7 months)- Bandit is packed full of personality, sweetness, and just the right amount of sass! He's great with kids and other dogs, though cats aren't really his thing. We'd love to see him in a home with another dog to help continue teaching him how to be the best boy he can be.

**Leia** (8 months)- Our Princess Leia is an incredible brindle beauty who we believe is a Plott Hound mix. She lost one of her front legs before coming to us, but don't tell her that she's different—this girl is ready for every adventure life has to offer!

**Dobby** (6 months)- Dobby came from an overcrowded shelter where he spent two months waiting for someone to notice him. We couldn't believe it! This goofy boy has energy to spare but is also fantastic at entertaining himself, especially outside. A fenced yard would be his dream come true. Between his hilarious personality and his adorable ears that stick out to the sides, Dobby is impossible not to love.

**Pickles** (1 year)- Pickles is one of our newest arrivals and another dog we saved from a high-euthanasia shelter. He's a sweet, cautious boy who just needs a patient family to help him build confidence and come out of his shell. We know he's going to make someone an incredible companion.

**Wilber**(3 months)- If you've ever pictured the perfect puppy in your head, it's probably Wilber. This sweet little guy is a black Lab mix who looks like he'll stay on the smaller side. He's goofy, affectionate, happy, and loves giving kisses!

**Otis* (1 year)-When Otis arrived, he was completely emaciated. Today, he's healthy, thriving, and quickly becoming everyone's favorite. He is the definition of a snuggle bug!

Their apps are all at www.mysaltydog.com!

🐾 Pull days never go the way we plan. And honestly, we're okay with that.

Yesterday, we set out for a rural shelter to pick up ONE dog.

We came home with THREE.

Because when you're standing in a shelter that is completely full and dogs are losing their lives simply because there isn't enough space, it's impossible to look away.

Our first stop was for Pickles. 💚

Pickles had been identified by our transport team on a previous trip, and they begged us to come back for him because they were terrified he wouldn't make it out alive. At just about a year old, Pickles is the funniest, goofiest, happiest boy you could ever meet. He's never lived in a house before, but he's learning incredibly fast and soaking up every bit of love and attention. Watching him discover the world outside of a kennel has been pure joy. He's going to make an amazing family dog.

Then we headed to another shelter that was completely full and actively euthanizing for space.

That's where we met Wilbur. 🤎

Wilbur is only about 13 weeks old. A baby. Because he had been at the shelter longer than some of the newer arrivals, he was quickly moving toward the top of the euthanasia list. We couldn't leave him behind. This sweet Lab mix is everything a puppy should be—curious, playful, affectionate, and absolutely adorable. We are already completely in love with him.

And then there was Maple. 🖤

As we walked through the kennels, this beautiful 2-year-old black Lab quietly caught our attention. While other dogs barked and jumped for attention, Maple sat patiently by her kennel door, calmly waiting for someone to notice her. She looked at us with the sweetest eyes, and that was it. We knew we couldn't leave her behind.

The hardest part? Maple's brother is still there.

We'll be going back for him on the 15th.

Every one of these dogs deserved a chance. Every one of them deserved more than a kennel and a deadline.

Now they're safe.

Pickles, Wilbur, and Maple are all available for adoption (or will be as soon as their veterinary care is complete). Maple is already spayed and ready to go. Pickles and Wilbur will be ready after their surgeries in the next week!

We were able to take 2 today but there are still so many more that need to get out. They are way over capacity. Please c...

Otis – A True Before-and-After Story

The difference that love, dedication, and a second chance can make is truly incredible.

When Otis came to us from the shelter at only about a year old, he was in heartbreaking condition. He was severely malnourished and emaciated—you could see every bone in his body. His future was uncertain, and there were moments when we weren't sure if he would make it. But Otis had something special: he was a fighter.

Despite everything he had been through, he never gave up. We couldn't give up on him either. We took a chance on Otis, and it turned out to be one of the best decisions we've ever made.

As he began to recover, Otis showed us who he really is. Beneath his fragile body was the absolute sweetest dog imaginable. He quickly stole the hearts of everyone he met and became a favorite among our volunteers. His gentle nature, loving personality, and resilient spirit made him impossible not to adore.

Today, Otis is a completely different dog. Thanks a month of care, proper nutrition, and endless love, he is healthy, happy, and thriving. His bloodwork is normal, his body is strong, and he has overcome every challenge that stood in his way. He has left the hardships of his past behind and is ready to embrace the bright future he deserves.

We love Otis more than words can express, and while we will be incredibly sad to see him leave, we couldn't be more excited for him to begin the next chapter of his life with a family of his own.

Otis is now available for adoption, and we are accepting applications at www.mysaltydog.com.

If you're looking for a loyal companion with an inspiring story, a heart of gold, and so much love to give, Otis may be the perfect addition to your family.

His journey is proof that sometimes all it takes is a second chance for a life to be completely transformed. ❤️🐾
