A Beauty After Bruises initiative 🎁 Delivering therapeutic healing to childhood trauma survivors who would otherwise go without.

Together, we bring tangible coping tools to those facing Complex PTSD and Dissociative Disorders without adequate support. Welcome to Beauty After Bruises' unique project to provide Therapy Boxes to complex childhood trauma survivors in need. Each box gifted greets a survivor who has no access to treatment with a healthy supply of coping tools, comfort items, workbooks, expressive materials, educational literature, and so much more. While there is no substitute to professional, in-person therapy, these serve as both a life-jacket and bridge-building kit to stability for those who'd otherwise go completely without. We invite you to help us fill each box with the items complex trauma survivors truly depend on and deserve. In doing so, you donate a generous stock of the thing they need most: Hope.

EXTRA SPECIAL DONATION ALERT!! 🎉🎁
This has been such an meaningful donor 'collaboration,' we couldn't wait to share! A dear volunteer of ours knew of an amazing company - Lifelines - who was making some of the most unique, innovative items that couldn't have BEEN more perfect for our childhood trauma survivors. From highly sensory, tactile journals to multi-sensory writing tools, artistic activity pads with uplifting designs, and even fragrant oils ideal for grounding, calm, etc. Their inventory practically reads like a Therapy Box wishlist ;)
When our volunteer reached out, they let us know they're still a small business with modest means but valued our mission so much they still wanted to offer a meaningful discount should we make a purchase of our own. Then, our lovely volunteer took it upon themselves to call out to their personal community to see if anyone would like to contribute toward the bulk purchase they planned to make. So! This spectacular donation was born from the love and participation of no less than a dozen hearts and hands. We were so moved by the passion and collaborative effort, we couldn't wait to share. For our survivors who've known little more than lifelong pain and neglect, may you see just how many on are with you today. Who never want you to go without.

Be sure to show them some love and support - not only for their kindness but all they're doing to better the lives of so many with their products. They fall in such perfect sync with the grounding, sensory needs of survivors, you won't be disappointed!

Today we wanted to send so much love and gratitude to the small business SketchBox They saw the needs of our childhood trauma survivors and showed up with a large collection of art supplies and tools to create with. We also love the ethos behind Sketchbox and hope the guidance they offer ALL creatives will help our survivors - especially those who may not be naturally artistically inclined but WANT to create.

In their own words: "We're an art subscription box. Every month we ship a balance of the best drawing and painting art supplies for you to explore and create with. ... We carefully curate each box to include the best and most innovative materials from top brands, as well as an instructional video and access to a community of artists who share their work and support each other."
We love the passion to share resources, expand expressive horizons, and do so collaboratively. For survivors whose worlds have grown quite small, getting to tap into that well of support and community can go so far. We hope the supplies within this Box can fulfill that larger mission and we're so grateful for Sketchbox's willingness to share it with those who'd otherwise go without.

We are sending big love and appreciation to Gatsby Canvas today! They so generously donated 10 scratch canvases to our childhood trauma survivors in need. These beautiful activity boards will bring so much color and tangible support that we can't wait to begin tucking them into future Therapy Boxes!
Whether a survivor's struggling with flashbacks or dissociation, needing a playful art break, in desperate need of a focused distraction, or simply always having wanted to create beautiful art but not knowing how to draw it - these lovely scratch canvas landscapes will make that possible. There is also such lovely symbolism in the scratching away of a dark, heavy coat to reveal something so alive and vibrant beneath. Healing trauma mirrors so much of this process that we can't wait to see it unfold before them in the same way. To know they too are as radiant and full of life underneath those dark and heavy layers. The hope is real.
Thank you, again, Gatsby. Your willingness to show up for our survivors does not go unnoticed. And! Stay tuned for a closer look at the wonderful options in tomorrow's video! :)

The name Wendy Hoffman will be recognizable to many of our survivors - particularly those with histories of organized abuse. Her indescribable vulnerability and leadership in this community cannot be understated. So, when she offered to send several copies of her poetry book, Self's Stony Soil, to be gifted to any trafficking survivors in need, we were honored and grateful. We regularly run into the difficult reality that there aren't a ton of trustworthy resources or support for this community - despite tons of chatter *about* them. And, many of the high-quality tools that exist for other complex trauma survivors can miss the mark for them or even encourage feelings of being "too much," "too broken," or just pathologically "different". This always breaks our hearts.
While we always work with every survivor to be conscientious of the materials we give, and take into major account where they're at in their healing and the kinds of supports they have around them, having more tools on our shelves to pull from is always so comforting. And, it's always a special day when we can give those who've been chronically othered, even in recovery spaces, the chance to feel truly seen and understood.
Thank you so much, Wendy, for not only your generous heart and willingness to share your wisdoms with the world, but for paying it forward to our survivors specifically. Knowing you're there and stand behind them will no doubt be strengthening - gifting the resolve and internal fortitude to push on another day. Thank you!

Sending so much warmth and gratitude to Sarah Moquin today for their incredibly thoughtful donation of poetry books. A fellow survivor extending a lifeline of connection to our childhood trauma survivors - most of whom are going through this journey of healing alone. This extended hand of familiarity will no doubt lift many out of the quicksand and go on to help them feel more seen, understood, and able to find their own powerful voices.
We are always so grateful when fellow survivors not only transform their pain into healing, but pay those lessons forward. While they never should have had to, the tremendous service it provides those still struggling in their own quiet corners cannot be understated. We will be sure to distribute these copies into the Boxes of survivors for whom they will resonate most!
Thank you so much for your raw honesty, Sarah, as well as your solidarity with our survivors here. Truly. We're also sending compassion and solidarity right back!
