Many times, we are consumed with things that we want while overlooking what we actually need. Sadly, we approach Jesus the same way. It’s a common false belief that Jesus exists to be our “personal genie,” 🧞‍♂️waiting to grant us our every want and wish, that His main purpose is to make us happy by saying yes to all of our prayers and doing whatever we want Him to do.

The beautiful thing about getting to know the real Jesus more is that you quickly realize that He is better than any genie. He is King! Here is life-changing truth: Real belief in the real Jesus is not worshiping Him only when He gives you whatever you want; it’s worshiping Him for who He is, even if He doesn’t give you what you want. You realize that Jesus is enough, and He is ultimately your greatest need.

One of the reasons we all liked play-dough as kids was because we believed we could create anything we wanted. We'd shape it to become something that matched our imagination. And if we didn't like how it was turning out, we could roll it up and start over.

Sadly, that is how many people today approach Jesus. They shape and create Him to be what they want Him to be. But a made-up Jesus will never bring real freedom, power, or joy because He is not the real Jesus. Only the real Jesus whom the Bible describes can save and transform. He is the real Savior and Lord!

Who is the real Jesus?

We’re going to start the year with this study, which will teach us that everything we know about the true Jesus comes from the Bible. Only this Jesus can truly save and transform lives. Our opinion about Jesus doesn’t change who He is; He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. However, our faith in the true Jesus will absolutely change who we are!
