At the start of three days of hiking trails with Polly Watkins Dean to finish out the updated 6th Edition of Hiking Georgia that will be released next spring. Put on some AG-Pro swag and did more than 15 miles at High Falls State Park, Victoria Bryant State Park and the Island Ford Unit of the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area. Henry Cowen and Gary Merriman have been added to the plaque and bio book for the Georgia Hunting and Fishing Hall of Fame at the Charlie Elliott Wildlife Center in Mansfield, Georgia. MESSAGE FROM THE GOWA PRESIDENT:

GOWAns,

I wanted to wish a Happy Fourth of July to the members and corporate members/sponsors of the Georgia Outdoor Writers Association. Today’s a fitting day to reflect on the work this membership does — because the story of this country has always been told, in no small part, by people like us. You are out there capturing what makes this place worth loving: the shrimp fleets of the coast, the trout streams of the mountains, the dove fields and deer camps and quail woods in between. Every article filed, every photograph made, every essay published adds another line to America’s story, to our story — one told not from a podium, but from a jon boat, a tree stand, or a tailgate at first light. That’s a tradition worth celebrating today. Thank you for the work you do, and for keeping America’s outdoor heritage alive through your words and photos.

Have a safe and happy Fourth, and God bless America.
