Ready to turn your climate concerns into meaningful action?
Join singer-songwriter Vienna Teng for an interactive climate action workshop at Me&Thee Music on Friday, September 18 at 4pm.

Vienna hosts these workshops while on tour, helping participants connect their personal interests and priorities with practical climate action. Together, we’ll explore how to:

🌱 Start with joy�🤝 Create a ripple effect by working with others�🔗 Connect climate action with things you already care about�👣 Take one manageable first step

And as a special treat, Vienna will share a song at the end of the workshop! 🎶

The workshop is FREE and limited to just 20 participants, thanks to sponsorship by Sustainable Marblehead.

This summer, Salem Sound Coastwatch, Sustainable Marblehead and Massachusetts Oyster Project partnered to install and monitor an oyster upweller in Marblehead.

Come see how much the oysters have grown and learn how an upweller helps young oysters grow before restoration. Discover how oysters filter our water and support healthy coastal ecosystems.

MassEnergize’s Youth Climate Solutions Challenge invites teams of students to research a local climate issue, design a creative way to solve it, and then lead a community based campaign to implement their solution— with seed funding, mentorship, and cash prizes along the way. Join us at the upcoming MHD Cruise In on Tuesday, September 15, from 6–8 PM at Devereux Beach to see a variety of EVs and talk with the people who drive them.

EV owners will be on hand to share their experiences, answer your questions, and give you a firsthand look at what it’s like to own and drive an electric vehicle.

Whether you’re seriously considering an EV or just curious, come take a look and ask questions!

From Sustainable Marblehead:

More than 2,000 trash and recycling bins have found new homes thanks to a grassroots effort led by Barbara Roy, and with help from Aileen and David Lucy, Ben Hacker and Anne Murphy. Barbara continues to call for volunteers to help re-home usable trash and recycling bins.

How residents with Transfer Station stickers can help:

♻️Set aside bins in good condition in the designated area. Please follow all Transfer Station rules and don’t block the shed or marked pavement areas.
♻️Help remove good lids from bad barrels.
♻️Transport bins to a location in Peabody until August 7.
♻️After this date, a new spot will be needed so that the bins can still be picked up. If you know of a location within Marblehead that would be willing to share some space temporarily, please let Barbara know. (Think large parking lots).

Did you know that native plants do far more than look beautiful? They provide food and habitat for pollinators, birds, and other wildlife that have evolved alongside them for thousands of years. Unlike many non-native ornamentals, native plants support the insects that are the foundation of a healthy ecosystem.
Even adding a few native flowers or shrubs to your yard can make a difference. Every patch of habitat helps create a network that supports biodiversity throughout Marblehead.
🌿 Easy ways to get started:
• Replace one section of lawn with native perennials.
• Choose native shrubs instead of invasive species.
• Leave seed heads standing through winter to feed birds.
• Skip pesticides whenever possible—they can harm the very pollinators you’re trying to help.
Small actions, multiplied across our community, have a big impact.

⛵🌊 Pleon Yacht Club sailors recently put their environmental knowledge to the test during a Recycling Trivia Game hosted by Sustainable Marblehead volunteer Jean Skaane!
The interactive game featured items gathered directly from Pleon’s own trash and recycling bins, along with litter found around their beautiful seaside campus. The sailors did a fantastic job taking on the challenge and thinking critically about what belongs where. ♻️👏
A few important takeaways:
🗑️ When in doubt, throw it out!
🔎 Visit Recycle Smart and use its search tool to check whether an item can be recycled.
🧵 Every small piece of tape, rope, and zip tie left on the ground can eventually make its way into the ocean—so pick it up!
💙 Every one of us has an important role in protecting the waters where we boat, swim, and enjoy the coast.
