Dear Adopters, Donors, Fosters, and Supporters,
Over the summer, our Board came together for a great deal of thoughtful
discussion and strategic planning. After many conversations and much
reflection, we arrived at a decision that is both difficult and bittersweet:
November will be our final haul of retired greyhound racers.
This is not a decision we made lightly. For years, we have had the
incredible privilege of welcoming retired racing greyhounds into our lives, helping them make the journey from the racetrack to the loving homes they deserve. Each dog has left paw prints on our hearts, and each adoption has reminded us why we do what we do.
For several years, we have been running two programs:
Arizona Heartfelt
Hounds and Sol Dog Lodge and Training Center.
As we look toward the
future, it has become increasingly clear that there is a tremendous need to help dogs and their families right here in our own backyard. We believe
our resources, time, and energy can make an even greater difference by
focusing on that need.
While our intake of new retired racers is ending, our love and commitment to the greyhounds we have already placed will never end. If one of our adopted retired racers ever finds themselves in a situation where their family can no longer care for them, we will always be here for them. They are, and always will be, part of our family.
For those who are hoping to welcome a retired racer into their home, we
are grateful that there are four wonderful retired racer rehoming groups in Tucson. These organizations understand the current situation and would be happy to welcome new adopters:

There are so many people who have made this journey possible—our
adopters who opened their homes and hearts, our fosters who loved dogs
through their transitions, our donors who made the work possible, our
volunteers who gave their time, and every supporter who cheered these
beautiful dogs on.
We could never have done this without you.
Saying goodbye to this chapter brings a lot of emotion. There is sadness in
knowing that our regular hauls of retired racers are ending, but there is also immense gratitude for every dog whose life we were fortunate enough to touch—and for every person who joined us along the way.
The greyhounds taught us so much about resilience, trust, gentleness, and
unconditional love. They came to us ready for a new beginning, and in so
many ways, they gave us new beginnings, too.
So, as we close this chapter, we do so with full hearts and deep gratitude.
Thank you for believing in these magnificent dogs. Thank you for
opening your homes. Thank you for fostering, donating, volunteering,
adopting, advocating, and simply caring. Most of all, thank you for
being part of the Arizona Heartfelt Hounds family.
The chapter may be changing, but love remains.
