The National Weather Service is monitoring the potential for thunderstorms to develop in the Manhattan area this evening (again).

This is not a line of storms moving in — storms may develop near or over our area along a weak cold front.

According to NWS Topeka, storms could develop between now and 10 PM. Likely around 7pm. If storms form, they may become severe and could produce:

• Large hail
• Damaging wind gusts
• Heavy rain
• Frequent lightning
• Brief power outages

Please stay weather aware this evening and be prepared to move indoors quickly if a warning is issued.

If your MHA home or property has storm damage after the weather passes:

Once the storm has passed and it is safe to go outside, please inspect your home for any storm-related damage.

If you find damage to Manhattan Housing Authority property:

📸 Take photos if it is safe to do so.

💬 Send a message to the MHA page with:
• Your name
• Address
• Phone number
• Description of the damage
• Photos (if available)

📞 Or call MHA 785-776-8588 and submit a maintenance request.

Examples of damage to report include:

⚠️ URGENT SEVERE WEATHER ALERT FOR MHA RESIDENTS ⚠️

The National Weather Service is tracking a dangerous line of severe storms moving toward the Manhattan area tonight.

Riley County is under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 1:00 AM. Storms are expected to impact the area around 10:00 PM.

NWS warnings west and southwest of Manhattan are reporting destructive storms with winds up to 90–100 mph, large hail, heavy rain, and possible tornado activity.

Residents should take this seriously:

• Move indoors now
• Stay away from windows
• Bring in or secure loose outdoor items
• Charge phones and medical devices
• Be ready for power outages
• Check on elderly neighbors and residents who may need help

If a warning is issued for Manhattan, move immediately to the lowest level or an interior room away from windows.
