As long as your cat does not overindulge, dry food should be accessible at all times!
We recommend wet food to be fed at least once a day on a consistent schedule!!
So many benefits including a routine that builds trust, monitoring their appetite and a healthier cat both present and future!!😻
A vet once told me that even the cheapest wetfood is healthier than feeding expensive dry food. I think about that, as we pass out plates of wetfood every day. We do not feed the cats anything fancy (it just a small step up from fancy feast), but the goal is moisture!
Hydration is VERY important for cats. Cats tend to have a lower thirst drive because their ancestors got the most of their water from prey. Dry food is 8-10% water while wetfood is 70-80% water. Because cats are prone to not drinking enough water....sometimes, dehydration can set in. Dehydrated cats are prone to UTIs, bladder stones, urinary crystals, also, lack of water can ruin kidney function. Basically, kibble is just a TON of dry carbs (like eating pretzels all day)... and the goal should be to off-set those carbs with higher moisture content. Wetfood also helps flush kidneys and the bladder of all the gunk that builds up from dry food.
If you have a cat who is peeing inappropriately in the house or is choosing not to use their litterbox, understand that it might not be behavioral. It could be medical.
If you have a cat in your home, definitely consider adding wetfood to their diet. It could save you hundreds, if not thousands of dollars in prevention. Male cats tend to be more prone to urinary crystals, stones and blockages. Sadly, even the best diet of wetfood, cats can still end with blockages.... but the chances are greatly reduced with added moisture.
