The June Mentor of the Month is Reid O.! Reid's motivation for mentoring came from wanting to be the person he wished he'd had growing up. He jumped at the opportunity when it came his way through Tuesday's Promise, driven by the desire to be a positive male figure in someone's life.

For Reid, the most rewarding part of mentoring has been the relationship he's built with his mentee, Cayden. Beyond being a role model, he loves spending time together whether they're at the arcade or jumping on trampolines.

One moment that stands out was a recent fishing trip they took together in early June. Fishing is one of Reid's passions and getting to share that with Cayden and watching him get excited about it made the experience all the more special. It's the kind of moment that reminds him why he signed up in the first place.

When asked what advice he'd give to someone considering becoming a mentor, Reid emphasizes building a connection with the mentee's family, and being a good listener. "Have them over for dinner, let them get to know you," he says. "Once your mentee sees that his family trusts you, he'll open up too." And above all, he stresses the importance of genuinely getting to know your mentee by finding out what they're interested in, stepping into their world, and building from there. Reid believes listening is the most important skill a mentor can have.

Outside of mentoring, Reid can be found fishing whenever he gets the chance, cooking, or working out, and seven months out of the year, completely consumed by his love of the New York Knicks.

Introducing Tuesday’s Promise.

For nearly 25 years, Tuesday’s Children has provided support, connection, and hope to individuals and families impacted by traumatic loss. As our work has grown over the years, so has our mission.

Today, we are proud to introduce Tuesday’s Promise—a name that reflects our commitment to providing lifelong support, meaningful connection, and accessible programs that empower resilience at every stage of life.
While our name is changing, our vision remains the same: ensuring that no one in the 9/11 community or post 9/11 military service loss has to walk alone.
