Uniting Pet and Human Research for a Cure®

At Animal Cancer Foundation ("ACF") a 501(c)(3) organization, we are singularly focused on selecting the best early-stage comparative oncology research to improve cancer outcomes for people and pets. At ACF, we believe that comparative oncology is the most under-utilized and most promising research model to increase knowledge of cancer as a disease, allo

w development of basic science data that warrants additional investment from large funders, and catalyzes successful development of new therapies for both veterinary and human patients. We provide research grants to enable comparative oncologists to build scientific evidence, conduct robust clinical trials, and generate cancer genomic datasets to integrate into the human cancer drug development pipeline. We ensure through rigorous grant-funding parameters that ACF funded research is best-in-field early development that will be poised to attract government and industry funding and encourage open share of discovery with all researchers.

🌿🐾 Houseplants can bring color, warmth, and a little life into our homes, but for curious pets, some can also bring an unexpected risk.

Dogs and cats explore the world with their noses and mouths, and even a quick nibble on the wrong plant can cause problems. Common houseplants including sago palms, philodendrons, aloe, and amaryllis can be toxic when chewed or ingested, with reactions ranging from stomach upset to more serious illness.

That doesn’t mean pet parents have to give up their greenery. 🪴 A little awareness can go a long way: know which plants you have at home, keep potentially harmful ones safely out of reach, and contact your veterinarian promptly if you think your pet may have eaten something toxic.

🐶🐱 Save this post as a quick reference and share it with another pet parent. Knowing what to look for and acting early can make a difference.

The “1 dog year = 7 human years” rule has been around for so long that it feels like a fact. But it’s actually a myth.

Dogs mature much faster during their early years. As a general veterinary guide, a 1-year-old dog is roughly comparable to 15 human years, and a 2-year-old to about 24. After that, there isn’t one simple formula — size and breed can affect how dogs age.

Researchers are also looking beyond the traditional “dog years” calculation and studying biological aging to better understand what happens as dogs grow older.

The more we understand about aging, the better we can recognize changing health needs and help our dogs live healthier lives. ❤️

How old is your dog and what breed? We’d love to know! 🐾

🛍️🐾 CARRY HOPE, ONE BAG AT A TIME.

Your everyday grocery run can help make a difference in the fight against canine cancer.

This August, purchase a Community Bag at a participating Stop & Shop, Star Market, or Shaw’s location, and $1 from every bag purchased will be donated to Animal Cancer Foundation to help advance canine cancer research.

Through comparative oncology, what we learn from naturally occurring cancers in dogs can also deepen our understanding of cancer and help inform discoveries that may benefit people.

It’s a simple way to shop, give, and advance research. 💙🐾

So… are you our kind of person? 🐾

Maybe you’re a proud pet parent. Maybe your home is never completely fur-free. Maybe you’ve at least considered canceling plans because your pet looked way too cozy. 😂

Or maybe you simply believe science should be used to make a real difference.

At Animal Cancer Foundation, we bring those two worlds together.

Through comparative oncology, researchers study naturally occurring cancers in dogs to uncover insights that can help advance our understanding and treatment of cancer in both dogs and people.

It’s why we support innovative research and collaboration between veterinary and human medicine, and why we believe the animals we love can help inspire discoveries that benefit us all.

If that sounds like your kind of thing, you’re in the right place. 💚

Follow ACF and see where the science takes us.

Kinda chic? We think so. 🐾✨

What if the love we have for our pets could help shape a healthier future for all of us?

At Animal Cancer Foundation, that idea is at the heart of what we do.

Through comparative oncology, researchers study naturally occurring cancers in dogs to uncover insights that can help advance cancer research and treatment for both dogs and people.

By bringing veterinary and human medicine closer together, we have an opportunity to learn more about how cancer develops, how it responds to treatment, and where new discoveries might lead.

That’s why ACF funds innovative research, supports collaboration, and invests in discoveries that can turn today’s questions into tomorrow’s possibilities.

Our love for pets. Our commitment to science. A future with more possibilities. 🔬💛

A generous gift. A shared belief in what’s possible. More hope for the future. ❤️

Animal Cancer Foundation is incredibly grateful to the Peter & Jeri Dejana Foundation for their generous $30,000 gift supporting ACF’s mission to advance cancer research through comparative oncology.

Comparative oncology studies naturally occurring cancers in dogs, generating insights that can also inform human cancer research. By learning from cancers that develop naturally in our canine companions, researchers can deepen our understanding of the disease and help advance new approaches that may ultimately benefit both dogs and people.

Support like this helps move that work forward and brings us closer to a future with better options for everyone facing cancer.

Thank you, Peter & Jeri Dejana Foundation, for investing in research, hope, and a future beyond cancer. ❤️

We may age differently, but our future is shared. 💙

Dogs and people experience life at different paces, yet they share more than companionship. They share many of the same cancers.

That’s why comparative oncology matters.

By studying naturally occurring cancers in dogs, researchers can gain valuable insights that help advance cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment for both pets and people.

Every discovery brings us one step closer to a healthier future for patients across species.
