Today is Millie's 400th day at the shelter and we think it's about time she gets to go home.

Millie is a 5-year-old, 60-pound pitty with a low center of gravity and a high capacity for making people laugh. A fashionable girl, she never leaves her kennel without her signature eyeliner! Short, stocky, and full of charm, this little firecracker keeps us smiling with her goofy antics and irresistible personality.

Millie is the kind of dog who walks into a room and instantly lifts the mood- she is a volunteer favorite! She lives for fetch with any type of toy and is the most polite about it, gently placing the toy in your hand and backing up in anticipation. This girl thrives on attention and affection, and shell gladly trade her silly moves for some quality couch time with her favorite humans. If you're looking for a loyal sidekick with personality to spare and a face that will make you melt, Millie is ready to be your star.

Rabies is still on the rise in Nassau county with over 25 cases in racoons and feral cats recorded to date since the disease's resurgence in 2024. It is more important than ever to make sure your pet is protected from this life threatening disease. Meet Toby, an 8 year old, 13 pound Havanese mix with a big personality in a little package!

Toby is a people loving, spunky little guy who loves being with his humans. He has plenty of energy, loves attention, and is especially passionate about treats and anything edible!

When Toby arrived at the shelter, he needed emergency surgery to remove one of his eyes. He has adjusted wonderfully and gets around just fine with his one eye. He does need three eyedrops a day, but his medication will be covered by the shelter for the rest of his life through our Continuing Care Program.

Toby does tend to mark in new places, but we are hopeful this will improve as he settles into a home and gets comfortable.

Toby has been through a lot, but he is still a happy, energetic little guy who is ready to find his people.

Millie is a 5-year-old, 60-pound pitty with a low center of gravity and a high capacity for making people laugh. Short, stocky, and full of charm, this little firecracker keeps us smiling with her goofy antics and irresistible personality.

Millie is the kind of dog who walks into a room and instantly lifts the mood. Whether she’s doing her signature “happy trot,” rolling around for belly rubs, or proudly showing off her best “sit,” she’s always entertaining. Her expressive eyes (framed by that adorable eyeliner) seem to say, “Are you watching? I’m being cute now.”

RALPH IS STILL WAITING.

We know we just shared Ralph, but we can't let this sweet senior get lost in the shuffle.

Ralph is roughly 10 years old, and he has spent his golden years waiting for someone to see him for exactly who he is. He's stubborn, opinionated, and independent. But we know there is someone out there who is going to love all of that about him.

Someone who will give him a quiet place to nap, take his leisurely walks, listen to his little old man opinions, and let him enjoy his retirement surrounded by people who adore him.

Ralph doesn't need a perfect family. He needs someone who believes an older dog is still worth choosing.

FREE RABIES CLINIC! 🐾

The Town of North Hempstead Animal Shelter, in conjunction with the Nassau County Department of Health, is hosting a FREE Rabies Clinic for dogs, cats and ferrets!

Wednesday, October 21st
5 PM to 7 PM
“Yes We Can” Community Center
141 Garden Street, Westbury

Everyone is welcome! Reservations are required, so give us a call at 516 869 6311 to register.

You may have heard about what happened here last weekend. In just a matter of days, our dog population has nearly DOUBLED.
Almost immediately, our community started reaching out with the same question:

“What can we do to help?”

We need fosters. We need adopters. We need people who have been thinking about bringing a dog into their home to take that first step.

Our dogs who were already here, some of whom have been waiting patiently for months or even years, are still waiting for their chance. They are ready. They just need someone to choose them.

If you have room in your home and in your heart, now is the time.

Get your game face on and join us for the Games Day Luncheon benefiting the Shelter Connection and the dogs of the Town of North Hempstead Animal Shelter!

Gather your friends for an afternoon of food, fun and games while helping give our shelter dogs the care and quality of life they deserve.

October 28th from 11:30 AM to 3:30 PM at Limani in Roslyn.

Tickets are $125 and include a fabulous afternoon of food, games and fun, all while supporting our furry friends.
