Just outside Creston, IL, West of Malta, IL. Big Boy has passed Rochelle and headed for her West Chicago layover.

It was a gorgeous day in West Chicago yesterday which contributed to the large crowds venturing out to see the Big Boy.

What a massive engine. Many will debate whether or not it can truly lay claim to the most powerful or heaviest steam locomotive, but for certain, she is currently the largest OPERATIONAL steam locomotive in the WORLD, and quite a sight to behold!

Imagine back in the day when there were 25 of these monsters just running every day, along with scores of other equally large and impressive steam engines around the country!

Of course, we enjoy rail fanning as much as model railroads! Some of our members were able to catch the Big Boy as she ran towards the Chicago area on its tour which will eventually lead it back to the place of its birth, Schenectady, NY!

The Big Boy is probably the most recognizable steam locomotive! We seldom have a modular display set up that we don't include a model of one.

It is Spring and it is planting season on the home layout. No matter the weather it is always a good time to seed some scenery!
