National Peanut Festival Contestants Donate More Than 150 Meal Kits to Wiregrass Area Food Bank
DOTHAN, Ala. — The 2026 National Peanut Festival Pageant contestants came together to make a difference for families across the Wiregrass, donating more than 150 complete meal kits to the Wiregrass Area Food Bank on Saturday, September 26.
Throughout this year’s pageant season, the 99 contestants competing in the 2026 Little Miss and Miss National Peanut Festival Pageants collected nonperishable food items during their practices at the National Peanut Festival Fairgrounds. Each meal kit was designed to provide a complete meal for a family of four.
The contestants collected ingredients for several family-friendly meals, including Chicken Pot Pie, Walking Tacos, Chicken and Rice, PB&J, and Spaghetti Supper. By the completion of the project, more than 150 meal kits had been assembled for donation.
Justin McNelley with the Wiregrass Area Food Bank joined the contestants at the Summerford Building at the National Peanut Festival Fairgrounds on Saturday to meet with them and accept the donated meals.
The food collection was a group service project for this year’s contestants and was completed in addition to each contestant’s individual Community Service Initiative. Through those individual initiatives, contestants identify causes and needs that are meaningful to them and find ways to serve their own communities.
The meal kit project gave all 99 contestants an opportunity to work together toward a common goal. At each practice, contestants were assigned specific ingredients to contribute, allowing them to see firsthand how individual acts of service can come together to make a larger impact.
With more than 150 meal kits designed to feed four people each, the contestants’ collective effort represents the potential to provide more than 600 meals to individuals in need throughout the Wiregrass.
The service project comes just weeks before the contestants take the stage for the 2026 Little Miss and Miss National Peanut Festival Pageants. Community involvement and service remain an important part of the National Peanut Festival Pageant experience, giving contestants opportunities to make an impact that extends beyond the pageant stage.
