SEPTEMBER 18TH - SEPTEMBER 21ST

Malone, NY - The Thrive Project with the Downtown Artist Cellar (DAC), a leading art gallery and community space, is thrilled to announce the second annual Salmon River Valley Plein Air Festival. This year's event will feature over 20 talented plein air artists from around the region, each bringing their unique perspective to capture the stunning beauty of the Salmon River Valley. The festival is a celebration of creativity, nature, and community, showcasing the transformative power of art.

Taking place from September 18th to September 21st, the festival aims to bring together the community to foster a deeper connection to the unique charm and natural wonders of our area.

What is Plein Air?

Plein air painting refers to the practice of painting outdoors, directly from nature, rather than in a studio. The term comes from the French expression "en plein air", meaning "in the open air." This technique allows artists to capture natural light, atmosphere, and environmental conditions in real-time, resulting in vibrant, dynamic artworks that often reflect the mood and color of the landscape at a particular moment. Famous plein air painters include Claude Monet, a leader of the Impressionist movement, and Vincent van Gogh, who painted many of his landscapes directly from nature.

New York State emergency home repair funding will be provided on a
first-come first-serve basis.

Franklin County, NY – The Franklin County Economic Development Corporation (FCEDC) is pleased to announce the launch of the Franklin County Resilient & Ready Storm Recovery Program, designed to assist homeowners in Franklin County who were impacted by the recent Tropical Storm Debby. Through a generous award from New York State Homes and Community Renewal (NYSHCR), the program will provide much-needed financial support for emergency housing repairs, helping local residents recover from the significant damage caused by the storm on August 9th and 10th, 2024.
This program focuses on providing reimbursement grants to income-eligible homeowners for essential repairs that ensure homes are safe, sanitary, and habitable. Homeowners may apply for grants up to $50,000, based on the scope of damage and repair needs. Funding is available only for repairs not covered by insurance or other funding programs. Applications are currently being accepted but must be submitted by Monday, October 7th, 2024 at 5PM, however, funding will be awarded on a first come first served basis.

"Our goal with the Franklin County Storm Recovery Program is to help families in Franklin County restore their homes and stabilize their lives in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Debby," said Jeremy Evans, FCEDC CEO. "By providing direct financial support for critical repairs, we are enabling our residents to rebuild and strengthen our communities for the future. We commend Governor Hochul’s initiative to help affected residents during this difficult time."

To qualify, homeowners must meet program eligibility requirements, including owning a primary residence in Franklin County and meeting income guidelines.
