Juneteenth is a celebration of Black freedom, resistance, and liberation.

It is also a reminder that the work of justice is not symbolic. It must live in our schools, our workplaces, our contracts, our policies, and our daily commitments to one another.

The Malden Education Association remains committed to advancing equity, building inclusive public schools and workplaces, and standing against racism in all its forms.

🚨 STIPEND RATIFICATION POSTPONED 🚨

Today’s scheduled Zoom ratification meeting has been postponed indefinitely.

The district is attempting to engage in regressive bargaining by going back on tentative agreements, and the MEA bargaining team cannot recommend proposals that do not reflect the 50+ hours members put into improving stipended positions.

Management has had multiple opportunities to resolve the single sentence holding this up. Instead, they are insisting on a unilateral, top-down approach.

The MEA did not agree to this.

We have requested that the district come back to the table and solve this transparently.

Democracy is not a suggestion, and tentative agreements are not rough drafts.

In solidarity,
The MEA Executive Board

The MEA is a democratic rank-and-file union.

That means our elected leaders, reps, committees, bylaws, and internal processes are not decorative. They are the structure of the union.

So, no, the employer does not get to bypass the process because it is convenient.

No, one person does not make unilateral decisions on behalf of the membership.

No, answer-shopping is not a communication strategy.

If you have a grievance issue, bargaining issue, disciplinary matter, insurance question, reduction in force concern, DCF 51A filing, or dues deduction question, there is a proper communication channel.

Respect the structure.
Respect the process.
Respect rank-and-file power.

Be like Frank.

Happy Pride Month from the Malden Education Association. 🌈

Pride is joy, community, resistance, and love. It is also a reminder that LGBTQ+ students, educators, and families deserve more than slogans. They deserve safety, dignity, respect, affirming schools, and the freedom to show up fully as themselves.

As union educators, we know that our fight for justice must include the fight for LGBTQ+ liberation in our classrooms, our workplaces, and our communities.

This month and every month, we stand with our LGBTQ+ union siblings, students, families, and neighbors.

Solidarity is love in action. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

📢👂 📢 IMPORTANT UPDATE ON RETIREMENTPLUS: We have learned that RetirementPlus will be taken up as a stand-alone bill very soon! We obtained this information through positive discussions and public comments made by several senators, including State Senator Liz Miranda, D-Second Suffolk, who announced: “that there is a clear path to taking up RetirementPlus legislation very soon.”

📰 This is significant news! We thank all MTA members who helped move this issue forward. Without your grassroots advocacy, this progress would not have been possible. We ask that you continue working on this issue and urge your state senator to support a Fair Fix for RetirementPlus.

👏We also give special thanks to State Senator Liz Miranda, whose determination and unwavering advocacy have been invaluable.
