Columbia County Beef Producers:

It’s time to schedule Brucellosis Vaccinations. The deadline to register your heifers for this year is October 1st.
A state technician will vaccinate your heifers, ages 4 to 12 months old, at no cost to you. Remember: You only need to call our
office anytime between now and October 1st to get them registered. Our office is open Monday through Friday, 8:00
a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

When you call, your name will be added to our list and, once the deadline has passed, you will receive a confirmation letter just prior to the vaccination schedule, giving you the exact date and time. You must provide good facilities and assistance to the technician at the time of the vaccination. There are currently no penalties for not vaccinating heifers, but it weakens our guard against BANGS disease if all are not vaccinated. If you know of others who may have heifers in need of vaccinations, inform them of this service and ask them to call our office to sign up. Remember, please call 870-235-3720 by October 1st to register.

If you have any questions, please contact our office at (870-235-3720).

The Columbia County Master Gardeners are looking for new members.
The Columbia County Master Gardeners is an organization though the University of
Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service with 18 members from all walks of life who share a
common interest. Our Master Gardeners are always willing to lend a helping hand to
others whether it be problems with Horticulture or gardening. The term “Master” can be
intimidating at first, because you think you must know everything about gardening or that
you may not be experienced enough, however; all you have to have is a common interest in
gardening. We have members from beginning to lifetime gardeners and would welcome
you to join. Our Gardeners have completed 1170 hours in service to city of Magnolia and
Columbia County over the last year.
There are over 3,000 Master Gardeners over the state representing about 70 counties. The
Master Gardner Program started in Pulaski, Saline, Jefferson and Garland Counties in 1988.
New Master Gardners receive 40 hours of training in Botany, Soil Science, plant
propagation, pest management, pesticide and herbicide usage, vegetable and ornamental
gardening, w**d Identification, other horticulture related topics. In exchange they give
back by answering questions, research specific problems, planting education and
therapeutic gardens, providing public speakers and much more.
For those that want to become a new Master Gardener, classes start October 21, 2026, and
the deadline to sign up is September 23,2026. This training will be held at Columbia
County Extension office. A new member must complete 40 hours of training.
If you have the love of gardening and are willing to share your knowledge with people in the
community and time to commit to the training and the required volunteer hours, you will
make a great Master Gardener.
Our monthly meetings are the first Thursday of the Month at noon at the Extension office at noon
and the Second Saturday to work at Wilson Gardens. We would welcome you to join us.

For more information on any of these programs call 870-235-3720 or come by the
Extension Office located at 206 West Calhoun in Magnolia.
