On June 19, 1865—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation, enslaved African Americans in Texas were finally informed of their freedom, marking a pivotal moment in our nation’s history.

This day, now recognized as Juneteenth, commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and was officially declared a federal holiday in 2021.

In honor of this important day, we encourage everyone to reflect, learn, and celebrate the significance of Juneteenth.

We will be closed today, June 19th and will reopen on Monday June 22nd. ❤

With World Cup excitement happening right here in our city, the energy is everywhere and we believe this is the perfect moment to help the women and families in Mercy House Global’s ESOL program experience the joy of soccer, community, and connection for themselves.

On July 25 at 7:30 p.m., our families will attend the Houston Dynamo vs. Austin FC match through our MHG + Houston Dynamo partnership.

But this is more than a game.

For the women in our ESOL program, everyday moments in the community can become powerful opportunities to practice English, build confidence, and feel a deeper sense of belonging. A soccer match offers all of that in a fun, memorable, real-world setting. Your gift helps make this experience possible.

What an incredible spring semester! 🌸📚
Because of your support, women and children in our community experienced education, encouragement, and belonging through Mercy House Global’s ESOL program.
✨ 34 women enrolled in ESOL classes
✨ 14 children received support
✨ Countless friendships formed
✨ Milestones celebrated
✨ Languages and cultures honored
✨ Confidence and communication skills strengthened
One of our favorite moments this semester was celebrating the achievements of our students and recognizing their hard work, perseverance, and growth.
And the impact continues to grow. As we prepare for fall, 21 women and 10 children are currently on our waiting list, eager to join the program and begin their own journey of learning and empowerment.
Thank you for helping create opportunities for women and families to thrive. We can’t wait to see what God will do next. 💜

Our Local Hope team and ESOL class recently came together for a beautiful Celebration of Languages — a joyful time of sharing stories, cultures, and connection. 🌍❤️

Together, we celebrated the incredible home countries and languages that make our community so special. Our friends shared about life before coming to the USA, the traditions they cherish, and the beauty of the places they call home. It was such an honor to listen, learn, and celebrate alongside them.

Some of our students wore traditional outfits from their countries of origin, and every person radiated beauty, pride, and joy. We are so grateful for the opportunity to honor the cultures, histories, and experiences that each member of our ESOL community brings with them.

What a gift it is to learn from one another and celebrate the many languages, stories, and backgrounds that make our community stronger together. ✨
