After years of patrolling and reporting on the numerous violations of Eagle Falls Hog Farm, NCDEQ is finally taking action! This is a win for the Dan River.

Fines and remediation requirements have been given and the Dan River will be better for it. We've documented this site from the Dan River and through SouthWings flights for years. While the CAFO has been inactive with no swine, the facility and waste ponds have continued to degrade and leak into our river. At times, we've even spotted farm workers pumping waste directly into the Dan River.

The presumed upcoming El Nino will help cement and quantify global warming acceleration, showing that 2ºC global warming is likely to be reached in the 2030s, not at midcentury.

Public hearing on a moratorium on data centers & cryptomining in Chatham County!

Info from the county announcement below:
The Chatham County Board of Commissioners will hold a Special Session on Wednesday, February 11, 2026 at the Historic Chatham County Courthouse, 9 Hillsboro Street, Pittsboro.
The purpose of the meeting will be to hold a legislative public hearing to consider a temporary moratorium on the permitting of data centers, data processing facilities, cryptocurrency mining operations, and any other associated uses within the unincorporated areas of Chatham County, pursuant to NC.G.S. §160D-107.
The Special Session will begin at 4:00pm.
Residents wishing to sign up to speak in person at the public hearing may do so by completing the online form or by emailing the Clerk to the Board Jenifer Johnson or calling 919-542-8200. If residents do not want to speak in person, they may submit their comments in writing by emailing the Clerk to the Board of Commissioners Jenifer Johnson and they will be included in the meeting minutes but will not be read aloud during the meeting.
