There are still two more weeks to view the Teejop Community Art Project's installations around Madison! The project aims to create public art that will engage with themes developed by Teejop-area Ho-Chunk community members who met for many years to carefully consider the locations and values included in this project.

Seven Indigenous artists were commissioned to develop art installations that honor and illuminate the rich cultural history of Madison as part of the area known as Teejop. The selected artists include Gene Delcourt, Lightning the Earth New Rider, Chloris Lowe, Dakota Mace, Melanie Tallmadge Sainz, Christopher Sweet, and June Whitehorse.

The installations are at five sites around the community until November 1, including the Capitol Square, Tenney Park, Olbrich & Hudson Parks, UW Arboretum and Merill Springs. In 2017, MCF provided a $50,000 grant towards this project and it has been exciting to see it come to fruition this fall.

A Fund for Women recently announced $164,000 in grants to 13 local organizations that provide programs and support to empower women and girls and strengthen their opportunities for success. These programs provide financial literacy and job training, mentorship and coaching to help women and their families gain economic stability and advancement.

“These grants reflect the many ways that economic security can change the trajectory of a woman’s life. From gaining new skills and accessing education to finding stable employment, safe housing and the support needed to move forward,” said Angela Davis, MCF’s Director of Grantmaking. “We are proud to invest in organizations that are creating meaningful opportunities for women and girls in our community, and we know that when women have the resources to thrive, families and communities are stronger, too.”

Carrying the weight of a nonprofit organization is no easy feat. Continuing to build and strengthen a nonprofit organization requires a large toolkit of tangible and intangible skills and real perseverance and commitment. The weight is easier and the building better when nonprofit leaders don’t have to do it alone.

The Goodman Nonprofit Fellowship kicked off for another year with the 2026-2027 cohort of 16 leaders engaging in real talk about the joys and struggles of the work and building a supportive peer community for the long-haul. We are grateful for this year’s Fellows joining the Goodman Nonprofit Center on the learning journey and already sharing great insights with each other. We are excited for the year ahead with this wonderful cohort of leaders!

Madison Community Foundation and the City of Madison announced yesterday a plan that will accelerate the implementation of body-worn cameras for the Madison Police Department. In this plan, Madison Community Foundation will award the City a $350,000 grant to cover the software and civilian personnel costs associated with implementing the program, removing a financial barrier and accelerating the current three-year plan to achieve a full rollout in 2027.

“As the community’s foundation, we try to identify needs and opportunities where philanthropy can make a meaningful impact, and utilize our resources to do so,” said Bob Sorge, President and CEO of Madison Community Foundation. “In this case, the community has made clear that greater transparency in interactions between police and residents is crucial to building trust. The City and Madison Police Department had already created a path forward, but cost was a significant barrier limiting how quickly they could act. We saw an opportunity for MCF to help.”

Thank you to Madison Public Library Foundation for an excellent evening on Friday at the Imagination Center Opening Gala. MCF staff had a great time exploring the new library and all the exciting features it has to offer!

This library is positioned to support the growing Madison community. Located on the isthmus, the Imagination Center will increase library access for several of Madison's largest neighborhoods. MCF is proud to have supported the construction of the library with a $250,000 grant from the Community Impact Fund in 2024.
