Yet another great and fun Toastmasters meeting in Lynden this morning.... we laughed, we learned, and we improved! Excellent speeches, astute evaluations, and exemplary leadership.... all while having fun! Check out the description of each picture. And, there's still room at each meeting for more members.... if you've been considering coming, but haven't mustered the courage yet to show up.... please come! It's a blast!

Last Friday, we had a POTPOURRI meeting at Lynden Toastmasters. Usually, we know in advance who's speaking, who's leading the meeting, and who's evaluating it. However, at a POTPOURRI meeting, nobody knows in advance who will have ANY of those roles! Each member drew their role from a hat as they walked into the meeting.... and boy, did they ever deliver! Brenda Dunford stepped up to the plate and led the meeting as Toastmaster, Marlin Hendricks, Selah Gabbard and Cason VanDriel each delivered an unplanned 5-7 minute speech. Table Topics were led by Leslie Deboer and the General Evaluator (who hastily assembled a qualified team of Evaluators) was Logan Sandner!

What a challenging and fun time! If you are interested in checking out our club, please come and join us this coming Friday morning.... be there at 6:20! You'll have a blast!

Woohoo! Lynden Toastmasters continuing at a TORRID PACE!! Open House last night, followed by a sensational meeting less than 12 hours later at our regular time in the Fairway Cafe! Our Club President, Dan Kaufman, opened our meeting with warmth and humor, and we were entertained (and greatly challenged) by Jo Byma’s TABLE TOPICS (WINSTON CHURCHILL quotes!), and we heard 2 amazing speeches. The first was an ICE BREAKER speech by Shannon Zebrowski, who has started a new path in the Pathways Toastmasters Curriculum, and the second was a fascinating scientific / artistic / musical introduction to WIND CHIME crafting by Marlin Hendricks! What a meeting! Our winners from L to R: Jonathan Ummel who offered an encouraging yet challenging evaluation for Marlin's speech, Aubrey Deboer, who had the crowd busting up with laughter at her response to a Winston Churchill quote about the enviability of pigs, and Marlin Hendricks, who won the award for the best speech of the morning with his introduction to Wind Chimes. Folks, every Friday morning, Toastmasters meets at the Fairway Cafe.... and it's a blast. We'd love to have you join us!

Fun open house this evening! An opportunity to show how a Toastmasters meeting works. Austin Miedema, our guest, was confident and capable enough to tackle a Table Topic, and he did so well that he won the award for the best Table Topic of the evening (he spoke about why it is important to have a good relationship with your mother in law) ! On the awards picture, you can see Austin with his trophy (L), Brian Stokes, our speaker for the evening (C), and Brenda Dunford (R), with her evaluation award! Thanks to all who came! We’ll probably do another open house next year again!

Plenty of fun, laughs and learning at the Lynden Toastmasters Club this morning! Challenging topics by Jo Byma, and great speeches by Brian Stokes and Brenda Dunford. And, while that was going on, excellent leadership skills training for all.... Albert DeBoer led the meeting as Toastmaster, and Dan Kaufman led the evaluation team very capably. Every single attendee benefited this morning!

Rock 'em, Sock 'em action at Lynden Toastmasters this morning! Those who braved the early start, and the blustery fall weather this time of year were rewarded with great speeches and table topics. The meeting started with some humorous but challenging Table Topics (where the speaker has no opportunity to prepare, and 90 seconds to speak), and our Topics Master (Darren Groen) had us all hopping. He asked Jonathan Ummel (center) to prove that God is real.... and Jonathan responded boldly, confidently and convincingly! Nice work Jonathan! The best speech of the morning went to Brenda Dunford (right), who gave some very specific and practical pointers to anyone hoping to show sheep at a sheep show. Her visual aid (can't remember the name of the sheep) played an outsized role in helping her to get her points across! If Lynden, Washington becomes more prominent in the sheep showing world, we'll be able to thank Brenda for her leadership! And Cason VanDriel (left) won the BEST EVALUATOR award for his evaluation of Brenda's speech. There were TWO other excellent speeches.... "NEVER FORGET" by Jo Byma.... a speech about those who lived in the Netherlands during WW II, and the challenges they endured. Also, a very informative speech by Albert DeBoer about Blood Plasma.... (Albert has donated Blood Plasma 300 times).... and all of this information and entertainment before some folks have hit the SNOOZE button at home in bed for the first time!

WHATCOM COUNTY RESIDENTS: come join us.... you will laugh your head off, and you will become competent at public speaking, all in the company of a supportive group of fellow learners! 6:25 at the Fairway Cafe in Lynden.... reach out to us, and we'll save you a spot!

It was a packed house this morning! People were squeezed into the Fairway Cafe, and they weren't disappointed! We had a full showing from regular club members and guests! And the 3 pictured ladies knocked the ball out of the park! Jani McKay (L) won the Best Speech Award with her speech filled with pointers on how to do a Power Point Presentation! Selah Gabbard (C) won the BEST TABLE TOPICS AWARD with her unrehearsed (that's the nature of Table Topics!) talk about being nice to others, and Shannon Zebrowski (R) won the Best Evaluator Award with her insightful evaluation of Logan Sandner's speech about CATS! (That speech was amazing as well!) Folks, we're looking to add members to our club.... please come and check us out! You WON'T REGRET that you did! 6:25 every Friday morning at the Fairway Cafe in Lynden, WA!

It was another great morning yesterday at Lynden Toastmasters! We had fantastic speeches by Jani McKay (best speaker of day) on what she learned teaching a course at JCI and from Kyle Gillette on smart goals. Logan Sandner won best evaluator for his clear, comprehensive, and thoughtful evaluation of Jani's speech. Albert DeBoer won best topics, our impromptu speaking session, for his helpful advice to the younger generations.

If you are looking for a safe place to develop speaking, critical thinking, and leadership skills, join us next Friday for another fun meeting! As always, we meet at 6:30am at the Fairway Cafe! See you there!
