16 SHOWINGS. And we’re still changing lives.

Today, Blind Eyes Opened came to Praise Community Church in York, PA, in collaboration with Sparrow Place of York. This screening was a movie and a candid conversation about what happens when we stop looking away.

We were honored to hear from a powerful panel that included THREE survivors, a former po*******hy addict, and the Director of YWCA York.

And we didn’t stop at conversation.

A host of local resources were there to help people understand what they can do, where they can go, and how they can become part of the solution.

Because awareness without action only leaves us informed.

We want people equipped.

Sixteen communities have now opened their eyes.

And every time someone says, “I never knew,” we know there is still work to do.

Thank you, Praise Community Church. Thank you, Sparrow Place. Thank you to YWCA Thank you Carmen Joseph, Cassie Smith, Justice Maddox, and Amber Ballou. Thank you to every survivor who continues to use their voice. And thank you to every person who showed up willing to share your voice with the world

The blind eyes are opening.

And we’re not looking away.

People don't see until it's too late. Being proactive can mitigate crisis and remove the blinders. Look Again is that film and we want our UYM community to come alongside this journey. When we began LOOK AGAIN, we thought we were just making a documentary. We had cameras, a production schedule, interview questions, and a vision for what we hoped to create (kind sorta).

What we didn't expect, was how this journey would change us.

No one sits across from another human being, listens to their story with an open heart, hears their pain, sees their strength, and walks away the same.

Every interview reminded us that there is a person behind every statistic and every survivor has extraordinary courage.

And a family whose line is irreversibly redirected.

This film has changed the way we see the world.

And once you see differently, you can't go back to seeing the way you did before.

And that's what keeps up going.

Because no matter how hard it gets, we still believe this story needs to be told.

Take Your Place in the Story

People often think the hardest part of making a documentary is filming it. And it was hard but for very emotional reasons.

This side of things is more mental than emotional.

We're now in post-production, where hundreds of hours of interviews must become one clear, compelling story.

Every decision matters.
What stays- which shot angles? Which words?
What moves - who goes first? Who backs them up?
What connects - how and who?

What’s really going to help someone understand something they may never have seen before in this way?

This stage takes time, creativity, and tremendous care because these stories deserve nothing less.

We're just getting started.

❤️ Every recipe has a story. What's yours?

Maybe it's the soup your mom made when you were sick.
Maybe it's the pie that never lasts through Thanksgiving.
Maybe it's the casserole that's been passed down for generations.
Food has a way of bringing people together and creating memories that last a lifetime.

As we celebrate the 10th Annual Comfort Food Cook-Off, we're collecting recipes for a community cookbook that captures those memories—and we'd love to include yours.

📖 No trophies required.
Just good food and a story worth sharing.
Submit your recipe by August 31 and help us create something our community will treasure for years to come.

This all started in a hotel room.

In June 2025, Jennifer and Nesha were sharing a hotel room in anticipation of our normal routine: talk a little, laugh a little, and eventually go to sleep. But that night, they couldn't.

The Diddy trial was unfolding, and we were watching the conversations happening around it in real time, and something became painfully obvious.

People were making decisions about what they were seeing without understanding what they were looking at.

Long story short, they didn't understand force, fraud, and coercion, and that:
-> coercion doesn't always look like someone holding a weapon to your head.
->or that a person can technically be "in a relationship" and still be controlled.
->and trauma bonds are real and hard to break.

They didn't understand what happens when someone is desperately trying to stay in another person's good graces because the consequences of displeasing them can be devastating.

They underestimated the power of manipulation and all the ways narcissistic abuse can keep someone tethered long after the relationship looks, from the outside, like a choice.

And almost worse than all of it was that they couldn't understand why someone would stay and participate. Why someone wouldn't just leave.

And that’s the part that bothered us most.

Because if you don't understand force, fraud, and coercion, you can look directly at exploitation and call it consent.

You can look at survival and call it cooperation.

You can look at manipulation and call it a bad decision.

You can look at a victim's behavior and judge them (BLAME THEM) without ever asking what they were being conditioned, threatened, deceived, or pressured to do.

We talked. And talked. And somewhere around 1:00 in the morning, when neither of us had searched for it, planned for it, or sat down to brainstorm it. There was simply a nudge.

And we both knew.

We were making this documentary without any clue as to how.

Not because we wanted to tell/defend one person's story or we wanted to capitalize on a trial.

And not because we wanted to tell people what to think.

We wanted to teach people how to look.

Because LOOK AGAIN isn't just about human trafficking.

It's about the uncomfortable reality that exploitation doesn't always look the way we expect it to look.

Sometimes the person being exploited doesn't look afraid.

->They don't run.

->They do go back.

->They defend the person hurting them.

->They appear to have choices.

And these are the very behaviors people use to dismiss a victim but are actually evidence of the control they were under.

That's why this film matters.

Because before we can ask people to look again, we have to give them the tools to see what they're looking at.

We have to understand force, fraud, and coercion.

And we have to understand that exploitation can exist in places and relationships where the outside world sees nothing wrong.

That night in that hotel room, Jennifer and Nesha realized something:

People don't need more information; they need a different lens.

We're asking you to LOOK AGAIN because what you think you're seeing may not be what is actually happening.

And if we don't learn how to recognize exploitation, we will continue to judge people for surviving it.
