Foundational Fridays- LGB/TGNC 101

This 2 -hour webinar is a part of our Foundational Fridays Series taking place every last Friday of the month from 12pm – 2pm EST, from July 2025 – June 2026.

LGB/TGNC 101 is for those looking to provide more affirming and inclusive services to LGB/TGNC participants. This training will provide an overview of health disparities among LGB/TGNC individuals by demonstrating how multiple levels of stigma and oppression adversely affect the health outcomes of LGB/TGNC people. We will also discuss gender identity, expression and s*xual orientation, pronouns, and how to move us from fixating on vocabulary to a place of deeper understanding so that we can take action and address the needs of LGB/TGNC participants.

Objectives:

Identify at least two health disparities among LGB/TGNC people who use drugs and engage in s*x work experience through dissection of the minority stress model.

Discuss at least three ways you can help provide safer and more affirming services to LGB/TGNC people.

Be able to express why providing safer and affirming services to LGB/TGNC people is crucial.

Trainers: Taylor Edelmann (He,Him) LGBTQIA+ Health & Harm Reduction Manager, Jessenia Fanini (They,Them) NYC Capacity Building Coordinator

Prerequisite: None, but viewing our Foundations of Harm Reduction is highly recommended

Audience: All health and human service providers, including Peers Workers

JUST SAYING "Nalmafene has absolutely no place in overdose reversal, it is unnecessary and harmful. The standard 4mg dosage of Naloxone remains the most effective, practical, and affordable solution for overdose reversal. The idea that more potent opioids in a drug supply requires higher doses of naloxone for individual ODs remains debatable, but naloxone is absolutely the gold standard solution and Nalmafene should not be used or promoted: it risks endangering people's trust and reliance on naloxone. We have the tools and the knowledge to prevent overdose deaths, we just need to harness those resources effectively and - like you described - expand people's awareness and involvement. "

It has come to this, ignoring the basic fact that PWIDs who don't have access to clean supplies pass viruses. NIDA writes a report documenting this well-known fact without ever mentioning the word rig, point, syringe. Doomed to go back to the dark days unless we slay this beast in November (notice I said no names?)

On May 18, National Institute on Drug Abuse Director Nora Volkow published a blog post highlighting the intersection of injection ...

Please join s*x worker’s demanding our rights and safety at this year’s International Whore’s Day at LA LGBTQ Center on June 2nd. We are hosting our event at the LGBTQ center as s*x workers, particurlarly BIPOC trans s*x workers, are consistently erased from q***r history.

Marsha P Johnson, who threw the first brick, was a Black trans street-based s*x worker leader. We demand inclusion in PRIDE, and demand our rights and safety are included in q***r spaces. Join us for this special day of community joy, films, tabling, speeches, dance and new research on the impact of large sporting event harm on street based s*x workers in LA.
