This concept is simple, but still difficult to understand. Why is it that an organization who is known to many as a protest group, spends most of its money on free art supplies for kids? I'd like a moment to explain.

The premise is simply this: Creative, independent people are free thinkers, and free thinkers move society forward. Solutions to problems - social, political, technological - come from the minds that have learned to stretch and think outside the box.

Too many institutions benefit when people feel powerless. People who can grow food, fix things, create, learn, organize, and care for one another are harder to control and harder to exploit.

We believe ordinary people are more capable than they've been taught to believe. Strong communities are built by people who create, build, grow, teach, and solve problems together.

We are not trying to "free minds" in a cultish sense, by replacing one way of thinking with another. We simply want to offer tools for people to free their own minds. Tools like art supplies. We believe they will then make good choices that lead to a better overall community.

Cascade Forward is NOT just a protest organization. We grew out of protests, that is true. But we formed our organization because we saw what motivated people can do for their communities when they don't believe only giant institutions can save them.

If your interest in Cascade Forward is purely political (that's fine - we do that stuff too!), then consider this: authoritative movements like MAGA rely on people who will let other people tell them how and what to think. Seeing through the lies of corrupt government officials requires only mild critical thought skills, and yet it seems about 30% of Americans do not have them. Programs like Rubble Flowers will, we hope, teach kids to think for themselves.

We’ll be tabling at the Youth & Family LINK Back to School Resource Fair on August 20th from 10 AM–3 PM at 907 Douglas St. in Longview!

There will be free backpacks and school supplies, family activities, lunch, and tons of local resources for students and families.

We're taking to the streets once again because justice doesn't stop at the border. Join us as we call for accountability in the deaths of Renee Good, Alex Pretti, Joan Sebastian Gurrero, and Lorenzo Selgado Araujo.

When government agents take a life, there must be independent investigations, transparency, and consequences where wrongdoing is found. Anything less erodes the rule of law.

Bring your signs, your voice, and your conviction. Peaceful protest is how ordinary people remind those in power that every human life matters, no one is above the law, and justice belongs to everyone—not just the powerful.

At the last Arts in the Park, my friend Jill gifted me with a peacock feather for my daughter's room. I carried it around, and wore it in my hat for a time.

At one point, a girl named Annabella approached me with this drawing. She had been following me around in secret and sketching the feather with the pencils and sketch pad in her Rubble Flowers pack!

Obviously, I'm going to frame it.
