Cowlitz Literacy Coalition - CLC

Cowlitz Literacy Coalition - CLC CLC brings together Public, Private, and Service Organizations to network, collaborate, and support

For individuals and their families, improved literacy is a stepping stone to better jobs, opportunities for education, and a better quality of life. For businesses, access to better educated workers leads to diverse industry and economic growth. For our community, increased literacy means less crime, healthier residents, and a higher rate of civic engagement.

To celebrate National Library Week: Libraries = Strong Communities, the Longview Public Library will be unveiling the new Civic Engagement Corner April 8, 2019. Patrons will be able to browse titles in our collection relating to civics, government, history, democracy, and getting involved in your own community.

The Civic Engagement Corner will be next to the New Nonfiction collection on the Main floor of the library. The collection and activities will continue to grow and include community conversations and presentations. As part of this new display, we will be preparing for a celebration in 2020 of the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment and invite anyone who wants to be involved to join us.

The Civic Engagement Corner offers an opportunity to learn, grow, and contribute to our community. Everyone is encouraged to participate and help develop the collection and community conversations. If you have ideas for material that should be included, programs that would benefit our community, or meaningful displays, please let us know. If you are interested in learning more, please contact Elizabeth Partridge at 360.442.5321 or email [email protected].
