4. Timing. This event is “chip timed”, by Athletictiming not gun timed; i.e., your time starts when you cross the starting line. To prevent congestion, I ask that 5K and 10K runners please line up based on their projected race pace/and 5K finish time. There will be signs to line up for those under 19:30 (under 6:20/mile); under 21:00 (under 6:45/mi); under 21:30 (6:55/mi) and under 23:00 (under 7:24/mi). The start will be a mass start (no waves), but lining up by projected pace should increase the safety and speed of the start.
5. SHIRTS. Long-sleeved poly/cotton blend shirts are available on a first-come, first-served basis for $30 each. If you didn't preregister, there is no guarantee we will have any shirts left in your size. We have lots of shirts from prior Harvest Classic races available at a very reasonable rate.
6. Start and Finish. Corner of 9th and New York near LifeWorks. Participants should line up about 5 minutes before their race. The course will close at 10:30 A.M.
7. Prizes. All finishers will get hand-crafted wooden medallions. There are awards for the top 3 male and female finishers in the 5K and 10K. In addition, there are ribbons for 1st through 3rd places for several age divisions. AND, everyone has a chance to win door prizes at our drawing (random bib number draw). There will not be a separate award ceremony for age group ribbons. Check your results right after you finish to see if you won a ribbon. There will be a booth to pickup ribbons.
There are also a couple team awards for groups entered through our “Community Challenge” and awards for our oldest runners. High School Challenge teams can win plaques for 1st and 2nd place teams, and individual ribbons based on year groups (freshmen, sophomores, etc.).
8. P*e Wee Fun run. A free 1/4 mile fun run for kids age 9 and under will occur at about 9:30 A.M. sponsored by the Child & Adolescent Clinic. All entrants will receive a ribbon and a shirt.
9. Numbers. This event is "chip timed" by Athletic Timing. Wear your number bib (that has a computer chip on the back) in the front and uncovered so the computer can accurately read it. Make sure you have the right type of number for the right race: 5K numbers are red; 10K are blue. If you wish to change races, you must do so before 8:00 A.M. at the registration booth in LifeWorks.
10. Water and refreshments. Water will be provided to runners on the course by volunteers from Heritage Bank. Fruit and water will be available at the finish, as well as fresh pressed apple cider. The Lower Columbia College Men's Basketball Team will operate the cider press.
11. Charity. This event supports local humanitarian needs. Most of the profits go to the HELP Warehouse that provides the food to food banks in Cowlitz and Wahkiakum Counties. Other lesser beneficiaries have included: LifeWorks, Faithful Servants, the Salvation Army, and the Longview Early Edition Rotary Foundation. You can donate by going to: Longview Early Edition Rotary Harvest Classic Online Donations (runsignup.com)
