Longmont Theatre Company continues its recent resurgence with the long-awaited production of The Odd Couple, the classic, beloved comedy by Neil Simon. Set in the 1960s, the comedy centers on two disparate divorced men who end up sharing an apartment.
Directed by Rob Messâthe nonprofit theaterâs artistic director and vice president of its board of directorsâthe show stars two longtime company members: Chris Martinez as Oscar Madison and Scott Dunn as Felix Ungar.
âItâs a wonderful comedy, itâs escapist, itâs a laugh riot, a laugh-a-minute kind of play that is highly entertaining,â says Mess, who returned to the theater companyâs board in July after several years. âBut itâs also about social change and adapting to your circumstances in life and reinventing yourself. All of those things really resonate with people.â
For , this production carries particular significance because it was originally set to open in 2020 but was halted by the COVID-19 pandemic just weeks into rehearsal. Then it was postponed again in 2021. The Odd Coupleâs arrival comes under a new board of directors, following multiple sold-out performances since summer 2025.
âWeâve been overwhelmed by the huge amount of support weâve gotten from the community,â says Mess. âItâs people showing up at the doors, itâs volunteers coming back, itâs financial support. Itâs amazing how many people want to contribute to the theater company and be a part of this.â
First staged on Broadway in 1965, The Odd Couple has been produced widely for decades, making its arrival in Longmont a notable moment for the local theater community. Tickets for the show start at $17.
