A satellite-tagged bar-tailed godwit set the record for the longest nonstop bird migration, flying about 13,560 km (8,425 miles) from Alaska to Tasmania in roughly 11 days without stopping for food, water, or rest.

To power the journey, godwits build massive fat reserves before departure and even shrink some internal organs during flight to reduce weight and energy use, an extreme adaptation for long-distance migration across the Pacific.

The forester for the timber company who owns the timber rights to our lease found this shed during the summer not too many feet from The Five Road. I’m betting he’s still out there, bigger, in rut, this fall. I hope one of our members crosses paths with him. She had the shed, but one of us will have the mount.

The Bent Barrel experience takes place inside the Adirondack's "blue line", marking what is "forever wild". This land is more than just a weekend hunting spot. It is a true "re-creation" experience.
