I love Loma Linda! It has a long and fascinating history. Of course, there is the bankrupt Mound City Villa, a posh hotel that failed a couple of times, but eventually became the Loma Linda Sanitarium; the predecessor to the Loma Linda Medical Center we know today.
Beyond that, our history goes back thousands of years. Serrano and Cahuilla Native people lived here. Mission Road was once one of the biggest trade routes in California. The Citrus Empire started here!
The Loma Linda Area Parks and Historical Society has hosted a number of Loma Linda History Fairs over the years since 2000. You're invited to this year's celebration. It's free! Sunday, June 14, 2:00-4:00 p.m. in the Loma Linda Senior Center, 25541 Barton Road, right behind the City Hall, Fire Station and Public Library.
If you have any photos, documents or items that show life in Loma Linda, Bryn Mawr, the Mission District, plan to bring them. We'll reserve table space for you if you email Jim Shipp at [email protected].
We'll also be scanning and photographing anything you want recorded for posterity, if you will share them for our archives. We'll also be video recording oral history. Bring your stories, too!
