I love Loma Linda! It has a long and fascinating history. Of course, there is the bankrupt Mound City Villa, a posh hotel that failed a couple of times, but eventually became the Loma Linda Sanitarium; the predecessor to the Loma Linda Medical Center we know today.

Beyond that, our history goes back thousands of years. Serrano and Cahuilla Native people lived here. Mission Road was once one of the biggest trade routes in California. The Citrus Empire started here!

The Loma Linda Area Parks and Historical Society has hosted a number of Loma Linda History Fairs over the years since 2000. You're invited to this year's celebration. It's free! Sunday, June 14, 2:00-4:00 p.m. in the Loma Linda Senior Center, 25541 Barton Road, right behind the City Hall, Fire Station and Public Library.

If you have any photos, documents or items that show life in Loma Linda, Bryn Mawr, the Mission District, plan to bring them. We'll reserve table space for you if you email Jim Shipp at [email protected].

We'll also be scanning and photographing anything you want recorded for posterity, if you will share them for our archives. We'll also be video recording oral history. Bring your stories, too!

Okay, my friends. I don't just beg for money for the Frink Adobe project. We also need lots of volunteer labor to bring this dream to life.
In about a week we will be pouring a 16' by 18' ADA Handicap-accessible concrete parking pad and loading zone. This was a requirement of the City of Loma Linda, and we are happy to comply.
Robertson's Ready Mix is donating the concrete, but I need 2 or 3 strong people with concrete finishing skills who can bring their tools, place and finish the concrete. Is that you? Do you know someone who would donate their time for a 5 yard concrete pour? Let me know soon. This could be as soon as May 23. We'll have the area graded and compacted. Forms will be in place. Fun!!!

Big stuff about to happen at the Frink Adobe. You can help!

Monday, May 4: Our plans for the Adobe go to the Loma Linda Historical Commission for their approval. We hope they will issue a Certificate of Appropriateness - their seal of approval.

If you'd like to come out to support Two Canyons Conservancy and the Frink Adobe, the meeting will be Monday, 5:30 p.m., in the City Hall Community Room, nestled between City Hall and the Public Library, 25441 Barton Road, Loma Linda CA 92354.

Tuesday, May 12: The plans go before the Loma Linda City Council for a final ratification. We expect this to go smoothly, since preservation of the Frink Adobe has been publicly supported for the last 25 years. The meeting is Tuesday, May 12, 7:00 p.m., in Loma Linda City Hall, 25441 Barton Road, Loma Linda CA 92354

It would be great if we could fill the Council chambers with supporters. Please come if you can!

We will soon be announcing a gathering at the Adobe, a kind of dedication ceremony. Certainly we're not ready for an Open House, as there is a lot of work to do to stabilize the building and improve the site, but we want to mark the completion of the planning process, and our intent to make the Frink Adobe Historic Park an important destination in our city!

Happy April, everyone!
We're having a volunteer work day on Saturday, April 11, from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at the Frink Adobe, 26248 Mission Road, Loma Linda.
We have school groups visiting on April 16 and 23, plus another special event to be announced soon, so we want the Adobe and grounds to be as nice as we can make them.
Here are the jobs:
Raking: We need to rake the old driveway, the front yard, and a little bit around the citrus trees.
Trash pickup: There are pieces of concrete, random pipes and chunks of wood around the property. We need to load them on a trailer and take them away.
Window washing: We've unboarded the front of the Frink Adobe, and the windows are pretty dirty.
Sweeping: The floors inside need sweeping, and the front porch and entry walk.
We don't have many leaf rakes or brooms, so if you have one, bring it along!
There will be water and some snacks. Rain is forecast for Saturday. If it actually is raining at 9:00 a.m., we will reschedule for the next morning, Sunday, April 12.
RSVP: Jim Shipp, [email protected] if you plan to come!

Another chance is coming up to volunteer at the Frink Adobe!

On Saturday, September 20, we're working inside the Adobe for the first time. The last residents moved out in 2019, and the house has been boarded up ever since.

On September 20, from 8:00-11:00, we'll be concentrating on two jobs:

1. Cleaning the kitchen. The cabinets are in fine shape, but the entire kitchen is very dirty.

2. Removing the old carpet.

If you'd like to come and help, we'll provide nitrile gloves and N95 masks. Be sure to wear clothes that you don't mind getting dirty.

Post a reply if you're coming, so we can have enough water and snacks for all our brave volunteers!

If you've ever enjoyed an Inland Empire orange, you have Horace Monroe Frink to thank for getting our citrus industry started. Come help us spruce up his homesite!

If you're up for some hard physical labor with no reward but our thanks, and the knowledge that you've done something good for your community, plan to come out to the Frink Adobe on Saturday, April 26. Help pull some weeds, pick up trash left by the nearby construction projects, and repair the sprinklers on some of the oldest citrus trees in our valley.
