History of Redlands Educational Partnership Foundation
In July 1987 concerns about the impact of state budget cuts on the quality of education in the Redlands Unified School District energized a small group of parents to explore ways to raise funds to promote and encourage excellence in education. The shared concerns of these forward thinking community members resulted in the formation of the Red
lands Educational Partnership Foundation. The REP Foundation is a non-profit corporation whose purpose is exclusively educational and charitable. REP FOUNDATION THEN AND NOW
IN THE BEGINNING . . . REP served 19 RUSD schools with a student population of 13,300. The Foundation supported three programs including:
* Enrichment Plus (cultural arts)
* Grants for Schools (mini-grants for teachers)
* Evening of Appreciation (Beaver Medical Group’s Outstanding Teacher of the Year Awards). Overall Program Budget = $16,000
Largest teacher grant awarded was $400.00; 16 were awarded. Funding: 1987 – phone-a-thon to ask community members to donate their tax
rebate from the State to create start-up money for the Foundation
TODAY
REP serves 23 RUSD schools and approximately 22,000 students. The REP Foundation now supports 6 programs including:
* Enrichment Plus for the Arts, Science, Technology and School Gardens
* Grants for Schools
* Evening of Appreciation
* RESCUE the Instruments
* REPresenting Our Schools Art Project (student notecards)
* AAA Academy Summer Day Camp, and Redlands ASES after school program funded by the California State After School Education and Safety Grant
The REP Foundation works in true partnership with the schools in the Redlands Unified School District. Over the years, REP has added programs. Increasing collaborative efforts with teachers, principals and district personnel has led directly to the inclusion of the following:
* Expansion of the Enrichment Plus program to include funding for technology along with science, school gardens and cultural arts.
* Expansion of the Evening of Appreciation honors to include classified employee as well as teachers.
* Formation of the AAA Academy to offer for-credit high school summer school coursework. Overall Program Budget (excluding AAA Academy) = $75,000
AAA Academy summer school/THINK Together After School Program Budget = $760,500
Maximum Teacher Grant is now $3,000
Funding today – REP Foundation relies on the REP TEN Campaign, generous contributions from community members like yourselves, grants from other businesses and foundations, donations from generous local businesses and service groups with the shared vision of the importance of supporting excellence in education. SINCE 1987 REP HAS CONTRIBUTED MORE THAT $1 MILLION TO RUSD SCHOOLS!! Where will we be tomorrow? The education budget crisis of today is worse than that of 1987. Our students and teachers within the RUSD need the REP Foundation more than ever. The Foundation continues to work to find new funding streams to help these programs grow as we work to continue “reaching out to make a difference!”
