Lodi West Point Cow Testing Association. From WPAHS History Calendar June 2011. It would be interesting to find out the number of Dairy Farmers in 1922, 1923. In May of 2011 the WPAHS counted 12 producing dairy farms in the Town of West Point. And in 2021 there were 10 working dairy farms.

The Lodi-West Point Cow Testing Association was a localized dairy cooperative program operating in the towns of Lodi and West Point within Columbia County, Wisconsin.
Active during the 20th century, it functioned as part of the early national Dairy Herd Improvement Association (DHIA) framework. Cow testing associations deployed an "association tester" (or milk tester) directly to member farms to evaluate and record critical metrics like milk weight and butterfat content, which local farmers used to selectively breed for higher-producing herds.
• Herd Performance Reporting from the Madison Wisconsin State Journal track monthly performance summaries from the association—such as its January 1927 report identifying Hartman Bros. of Lodi as having the highest producing herd.
The association's testers frequently served as community agricultural leaders. In February 1925, the association's tester sponsored the organization of a local youth calf club at the Lodi school building, a role that continued to serve as a nucleus for local youth agricultural development for decades.
Over the latter half of the 20th century, independent local groups like the Lodi-West Point association gradually consolidated into regional, centralized DHIA laboratories ( as the Dodge County DHIA and South Central DHIA) to handle modern data processing.

Perched overlooking Lake Wisconsin, Schoepp Farms features a picturesque view for its heifers and dry cows as they graze in pastures. The Schoepps adopted no-till practices in 1991, and in 1995 planted cover crops as conservation practices have been part of their farm for over 30 years.

They recently hosted the Wisconsin River Basin Bast at Conservation Night by the Lake, put on by the Lake Wisconsin Farmer Watershed Council.

The 2027 West Point Calendar is "Hot off the Press" and available to purchase at the West Point Town Hall. Calendars are $10.00 and proceeds from the sales are used for yearly programs for the community and donated annually to the local community non profits such as the Sauk City food pantry, 6:8, and LODI Reach Out program. Previous proceeds also have been contributed to equipment used for town meetings such as projectors, video and a smart television. Last year the WP Historical Society purchased one of the 2 new steel benches in front of the town hall in memory of its founding nembers. Past president Joan Ryan, Archivist Patti Schuknecht, Treasurer Della Ryan. Members Carol Troestler and Charlene Richmond. This is our 20th year printing local history calendars. Our past and current members have continued to research and get into print stories that might have been lost if not printed in this calendar. We thank all the local people that have shared stories through telephone conversations or welcomed us in their homes to write down their stories in these calendars. We would also like to thank all our sponsors that have supported us financially with printing costs each year. Our sponsors are printed on the back cover of these calendars. The Henry family settled in the Town of West Point on OConnor road after they were told to leave their farm along with many other farm families that lived on fertile prairie land that would become the Badger Ordainance Plant north of Prairie du Sac. This is part 2 of their story that was featured in the 2024 West Point Area History Calendar. The family farmed on several WP Farms after 1943

This is a WI. State Journal article. Several errors on this post. There was a team that excavated Water St. South of the Sauk City Bridge 2 summers ago. This article should have said that the roadway north of Sauk Bridge along the Wisconsin River which is also Water St. and was the original Highway 12 will be redone in 2028. That is the location that may have more evidence of the Native Americans (Sauk) that lived in this area.

Evidence of the 18th Century “Great Town of the Saukies” settlement could put the site on the National Register of Historic Places.

CAN’T BEAT A CLASSIC ❤️ The tiny town of Merrimac (population: 300) was almost certain the new Interstate would shut down its ferry — as was the case for 500 others across Wisconsin!

But they underestimated its ✨nostalgia✨

Not only did the Merrimac Ferry SURVIVE — it continues to THRIVE as the state’s only free ferry.

Each ride across the Wisconsin River from Okee (on the east) to Merrimac (on the west) only takes 7 minutes!
