Sometimes generosity shows up when you least expect it. ❤️

Recently, two members of the Open Heart Kitchen team stopped at Safeway Gas to fill up one of our box trucks. As they prepared to pump diesel, the driver of the vehicle in front of them walked over.

He told them he’d be honored to fill up the Open Heart Kitchen truck and thanked them for all the good OHK does in the community.

Then he paid for the entire fill-up: $143.

At a time when the cost of everyday necessities from groceries to gas continues to put pressure on households and organizations alike, moments like this are a powerful reminder of what community looks like.

Thank you to the stranger who decided to help that day. And thank you to everyone who continues to stand with Open Heart Kitchen. ❤️

💚 Volunteer Spotlight

In August, members of Sandia National Laboratories returned to the Open Heart Food Bank to lend a hand—and we’re grateful they did!

From sorting and organizing food to helping us keep our warehouse running smoothly, volunteers make an enormous difference in our ability to get nutritious food into the hands of our neighbors.

Check out these young changemakers in action!

Girl Scout Troop 33831 stopped by for a tour of the Vineyard Resource Center to learn about all the amazing services offered. They got to see how meals, showers, laundry facilities, overnight shelter, community rooms, and space for case management and other services come together under one roof to support our community.

A week later, the Troop went door to door to collect essential items for OHK's programs at Vineyard. OHK is so grateful to Troop 33831 for partnering with us to make sure our neighbors receive essential goods and services with dignity and compassion.

Thanks again, Troop 33831, for being amazing and generous members of our community! Keep up the great work! 🩵

A toast to community! 🍻❤️

Earlier this year, we shared the story of the Livermoron West Coast IPA—a special b**r release created by the Livermore Valley Craft B**r Foundation to benefit Open Heart Kitchen. Our Executive Director, John, even got to help make it!

We’re thrilled to share that this special release raised $5,000 for OHK!

Can you believe it’s already been two weeks since we stepped back into the ’70s? 🕺✨

September is Hunger Action Month—a nationwide movement that brings communities together to take action against hunger.

Launched by the Feeding America network in 2007, Hunger Action Month brings together food banks, volunteers, donors and advocates across the country to tackle hunger and it's causes.

Here at Open Heart Kitchen, we’re proud to be part of that movement—and every year, we use Hunger Action Month as an opportunity to raise awareness and support for our neighbors throughout the Tri-Valley.
