🦈 WHY DOES THIS LOCATION BECOME A WHALE SHARK HOTSPOT?

Every summer, hundreds of whale sharks gather off Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula, drawn by a seasonal food source that can support these ocean giants in extraordinary numbers.

“Several have been shown to travel thousands of miles and then return to the Yucatán in subsequent years,” says OCEARCH Senior Data Analyst John Tyminski.

Whale shark Theresa was tagged by Choojajauil in collaboration with the Katie Adamson Conservation Fund.

📍Check out Theresa’s movements and track sharks like her on the OCEARCH Global Shark Tracker ➡️ https://www.ocearch.org/app
