WHO WAS JACK BENEDICK? A relentless advocate for adaptive skiing over four decades, Jack’s efforts resulted in U.S. athletes achieving hundreds of Paralympic and World Championship medals and the elevation of his sport to the highest level globally.
Jack Benedick lost both legs in Vietnam but didn't lose the will to fight. He returned to the war — the only double amputee to serve on active military duty — and then became a tireless pioneer in adaptive skiing. Jack was known to quip” fourth place doesn’t count.” No Excuses Unlimited created the Jack Benedick Victory Incentive Program (VIP) to reward the USOPC team athlete who achieves top podium status on the race course during the season. The 2023 winners were Kendall Gretsch USA and BioDapt Mike Schultz. Well done!

On Sunday, Tailgate With A Purpose scored big. Too bad the Broncos not so much. Ralph Green good for you and your Jets. A big thank you to AdaptiveSpirit, Brad Parobek, Tim Gropp, Greg Riker, Debbie Barackman-Flippo and Kevin Hord for pulling it all together. And, of course, thank you to the ASAP supporters who came out to donate and enjoy the beautiful Colorado weather. Over $3100 raised for ASAP. Good times for a great cause.

Forecast for Broncos vs Jets on the 23rd? Bluebird day and a "W" for the Broncos and ASAP.

To say adaptive equipment is pricey would be an understatement. To say that it's life-changing would be, too.

Adaptive equipment is essential to the success of so many athletes on the U.S. Paralympic Ski and Snowboard team, yet it can remain out of reach.
That's where we come in.
We're committed to removing barriers – like equipment costs – for members of the team. Are you interested in joining us? Learn more about our mission and donate here: https://bit.ly/3BOihtG

Who was Jack Benedick?
Besides being one of the founding members of No Excuses Unlimited, Jack was a relentless advocate for adaptive skiing for over four decades. His efforts resulted in U.S. athletes achieving hundreds of Paralympic and World Championship medals and the elevation of the sport to the highest level globally.

The evolution of the U.S. Adaptive Ski Team, the prominence of U.S. athletes over two decades and the growth of adaptive skiing within the Paralympics can all be traced back to Jack. It’s not a stretch to consider Jack as this country’s Father of Competitive Adaptive Skiing. A fearless skier, tireless advocate, caring father, loving husband, great friend, unforgettable soldier, and great leader, we're grateful to have known him.

The U.S. Paralympics Nordic Skiing team has been training hard up in Duluth this summer. Balancing on these skis is harder than it looks, but no match for these dedicated athletes!

“Beyond the medals, Adicoff and Wood have been role models in the sport with their professional way of working together and communications style—setting a new high bar for how visually impaired athletes and guides work as a team.”

Congrats to Sam Wood and Jake Adicoff for being named the U.S. Ski and Snowboard team's Adaptive Athletes of the Year! A well-deserved honor.

Local Nordic standouts Jake Adicoff and Sam Wood added another laurel to a stellar season last week when U.S. Ski and Snowboard named the team Adaptive Athletes of the Year.
