Linden Historical Society Linden Historical Society has started a new effort to restore our historic courthouse.

Everyone! Linden Historical Society is in the beginning stages of planning our Halloween event for this year. Upon discussion we decided we would need between 20 and 30 helpers to make the event a success. Any members or non-members interested in helping with this event, please respond here and let us know. This year we will have a hayride, photo booth, duck pond, ring toss, a co****le game and a go fish game. We will also be selling popcorn, cotton, candy, and drinks. The event will be on Saturday, October 31. If you’re interested in helping, just let us know! 

All proceeds go to the restoration of the old Marengo County courthouse. We will also accept monetary donations and will take new memberships for $25 a year. 

Thanks for all of your support in all that we have done!

Everyone! Linden Historical Society continues in helping Mrs. Sharon Harrell, formerly of Linden, in the selling of her estate. As you have probably seen on social media, September 11, 12 and 13 at the former Carpet Alley location we will be conducting an estate/rummage sale for Mrs. Harrell. We want to let all members of LHS and any others know that we need as many volunteer helpers as we can get for this event. If anyone is interested in helping, please reply to this post and let us know. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated as we conduct this huge sale.

Linden Historical thanks everyone for your tremendous support over the past couple of years. We are moving forward with our plans to restore the old courthouse and a percentage of the profits from this sale will go toward that effort.

I found this picture while going through some old things last night. Just wondering if anybody out there may know who these two people are? Of course, this photo was taken by what appears to be the west wall of the old courthouse, and it appears this photo may have been taken prior to building the old swimming pool which was some time in the 1950’s. The second picture is the backside of the first picture. No names included.

Linden! We at Linden Historical Society are once again so proud to share that we have AGAIN been selected to receive state grant funding to continue restoration of the old Marengo County Courthouse. Our first grant was awarded in the amount of $75,000 and was well spent on Linden’s historic treasure. Just a couple of days ago we were informed that we were awarded another grant in the amount of $56,250. The first person I would like to recognize at this time is our personal grant writer and board member, Rita Crocker Wright of Linden. We so appreciate Rita‘s devotion, dedication and talent in writing grants and helping to make our endeavor a huge success.  Also, I could never go without thanking each of our board members. They are Cleveland Wright, Annetta Henderson, Patti Dixon, and Lynwood Smith, all of Linden.

Remember our efforts in your prayers as we continue to move forward with large projects that we will strive to do meticulously. Also, once again, we thank each and every individual who has supported us with private monetary donations and donations to our very successful rummage sales. We have held three rummage sales over the past several months and made roughly $15,000. Again, many thanks to all for supporting us as we strive to serve Linden in this endeavor.

Beautiful morning at the Old Marengo County Courthouse!

We have big plans for the courthouse still and are working behind the scenes nearly every day. Our next fundraiser rummage sale is July 11, 2026 from 9 AM to 4 PM at the courthouse. Still accepting donations for the sale, contact any board member if you need assistance, thanks!

Glad this was done! Linden Historical was in the process of trying to help set aside a day that people could come and have their photographs made in front of the school before it was torn down. I’m glad this group did it!  We did not officially coordinate any day with the school, if any other groups would like to do this, please speak with the school and I feel sure they would allow anyone to have photos made. 

If not mistaken the old building is 100 years old this year. We are sad to see it go, but we have a brand new beautiful building right behind it.

Thank you Linden and everyone who turned out today for Founders Day at the old courthouse. In spite of heavy rains last night and this morning, our day was still a great success!  Thanks again for supporting us!

Linden Historical Society will be having the rummage sale again tomorrow from 1 PM until 4 PM at the courthouse. We had a great day today, come by tomorrow if you can!
