Linden Historical Society has started a new effort to restore our historic courthouse.

Update! We’ve had a lot of people drive by slow today and look. We’re going to try our best to have everything lit up and operating tomorrow night so everyone can ride by and look before the carnival on Halloween night.

Halloween is getting close and Linden Historical Society is beginning to prepare for the Halloween carnival on October 31, 2026. We will have a bigger and better carnival this year. We thank everyone in the community for turning out last year and as always, for supporting us in our endeavor to restore the old courthouse. We’re looking forward to seeing everyone again this year. Our hours will be from 5:30 PM until 8:30 PM or until everyone is gone. Hope to see you there!

Be on the lookout, we have more decorations to come!

Linden and surrounding communities, it’s drawing near and this year‘s Halloween carnival is on Halloween night. All details are listed below.

We still need volunteers. If anyone is interested in helping, please let us know through this page or see any one of us: Mike Peppenhorst, Cleveland Wright, Rita Wright, Annetta Henderson, Lynwood Smith, Patti Perry Dixon, Milison Price, or Marx Ford. We hope to see all of you there!

Everyone! Just a reminder that the date is drawing near for Linden Historical Society’s Halloween carnival on Halloween night, October 31st. Some things will be different this year. We will have individual booths such as duck pond, go fish, etc. We will have the cemetery hayride again.. We will have free popcorn, peanuts, and cotton candy. We will be selling drinks, balloons, T-shirts, Linden Historical Society fans, memberships and as always, accepting any donations to help with the continued restoration of our historic courthouse.

However, this year‘s carnival will require a lot of volunteer help. Anyone in the community that would like to volunteer to help out, please message us through this page. We also encourage any students from Linden High School who may be interested in helping to do the same. We greatly appreciate everyone’s support and help in all we do and look forward to serving our community .

Everyone! Linden Historical Society continues in helping Mrs. Sharon Harrell, formerly of Linden, in the selling of her estate. As you have probably seen on social media, September 11, 12 and 13 at the former Carpet Alley location we will be conducting an estate/rummage sale for Mrs. Harrell. We want to let all members of LHS and any others know that we need as many volunteer helpers as we can get for this event. If anyone is interested in helping, please reply to this post and let us know. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated as we conduct this huge sale.

Linden Historical thanks everyone for your tremendous support over the past couple of years. We are moving forward with our plans to restore the old courthouse and a percentage of the profits from this sale will go toward that effort.

Everyone! Linden Historical Society is in the beginning stages of planning our Halloween event for this year. Upon discussion we decided we would need between 20 and 30 helpers to make the event a success. Any members or non-members interested in helping with this event, please respond here and let us know. This year we will have a hayride, photo booth, duck pond, ring toss, a co****le game and a go fish game. We will also be selling popcorn, cotton, candy, and drinks. The event will be on Saturday, October 31. If you’re interested in helping, just let us know!

All proceeds go to the restoration of the old Marengo County courthouse. We will also accept monetary donations and will take new memberships for $25 a year.

Thanks for all of your support in all that we have done!

I found this picture while going through some old things last night. Just wondering if anybody out there may know who these two people are? Of course, this photo was taken by what appears to be the west wall of the old courthouse, and it appears this photo may have been taken prior to building the old swimming pool which was some time in the 1950’s. The second picture is the backside of the first picture. No names included.
