Very first female Comannder for post 77 congratulations I know you’ll do a great job

The Carl P. Burrill Post #77 American Legion in Lincoln had their induction ceremony this week. Commander Sheldon Hanington proudly passed on his seven year position to the first female Commander at this post on record. The newly appointed Commander is Mary Eliason, wife of Norman who both reside in Chester. She is a twenty year Army National Guard member and an Active Duty Veteran who is scheduled to retire soon. She and her husband like to garden, go fishing and with her retirement approaching she is happy to volunteer her time with the American Legion here in Lincoln.

Current Commander Hanington led the meeting which are held every first Tuesday of the month, and handed the induction duties over to past Commander of twenty eight years, Daryl Savage. Mr. Savage presented each newly appointed officer a warrant certificate. The 2027 officers are as follows: Commander Mary Eliason, Adjutant Sheldon Hanington, 1st Vice Commander Stephen DeSmidt, 2nd Vice Commander Eric Rojo, Americanism Officer & Historian Brian Hamor, Chaplain John Richards, Finance Officer Cory Stratton, Service Officer John “Doc” Nelson, Sergeant-at-Arms Hubert Aldrich and Judge Advocate Ronnie McComb Sr.

Commander Hanington expressed that he is grateful to have held this position and is eager to continue serving. He thanks his wife who is still the current President of the Auxiliary and fellow officers and members, as they play a big part collectively in making this post stronger. He is happy to see a few of the younger veterans joining and encourages anyone interested to please come to a meeting. It is important to preserve this legacy for our next generation.

Hanington proclaimed “For God and Country, it has been my highest honor to serve as your Commander.” He then handed over the gavel to the newly appointed Commander Mary Eliason and pledged to support her ensuring unity within the ranks.
