Yesterday’s meeting presenter was informative as he shared info about the work of NCWorks Career Center. Their services are vital in helping a broad range of our local residents who need assistance with employment. Thanks for the work you do! Our presenter, however, tugged at the collective heart of our local club when he shared that he attended Kamp Kiwanis as a child. His personal story of how camp provided him safety, adventure, nourishment, and acceptance reminded us why we do what we do. For decades, we have worked together on behalf of local deserving children who can benefit from a summer camp experience. It’s why we do anything we do. Yesterday was a good reminder of the potential influence we provide as we head into fair ad sales season, the 2026 camp schedule, and prepare for another successful county fair in September. Being part of something bigger than us, that lives beyond our years - what a gift!

Winter is the perfect time to check out our local Kiwanis Club. For more than 100 years Kiwanians have faithfully worked on behalf of children throughout Davidson County. Today, Roger Tripp led his last “She’ll Be Coming ‘Round the Mountain” as Permanent Song Leader. Roger has been entertaining Lexington Kiwanians weekly with jokes, songs, and antics for 30 years. Thank you, Roger, for all the years of laughs!

The weather this week has made it possible for the Davidson County Agriculture Fair to welcome thousands of guests each night. We are grateful for each local and regional visitor who came to enjoy all the fair has to offer. Your attendance makes a difference in the life of a child, as we continue using fair proceeds to support Kamp Kiwanis each summer, offering a unique summer camp opportunity to area children. Thanks for your attendance and your kind words about your experience with us this year. Today is the last day of the 2025 fair, and we hope to see you there. Fireworks begin at 10pm to signal the conclusion of an amazing annual event.

Davidson County Senior Services, in partnership with the Lexington Kiwanis Club, will host the annual Seniors’ Day at the Davidson County Agricultural Fair on Thursday, Sept. 18.

Lunch today at Kamp Kiwanis with the campers was a treat! Thanks to staff and volunteers who make sure everyone has a good time and has plenty to eat. The work of our Kiwanis club members goes on all year long to make it possible for local children to have a safe and fun summer experience at camp.
