Exciting progress continuing right here at the HUB 🙌. Office desks and tables have been added to most rooms along with a fresh touch up of paint 🖌️. Welcome and waiting areas are being installed as well. We’re seeing once empty rooms being transformed into warm welcoming spaces designed to serve our DC community!

As renovations continue, each new addition represents a place where individuals and families come to find support, hope, healing, and build connections to vital community resources under one roof. Our vision for the HUB is more than just an office space, it’s breaking down barriers and opening new doors to those who need it most in our community. 💙❤️

Here’s a little reminder that the Medicare Open Enrollment Portal is open now until December 7. Here at Davidson Medical Ministries & DC Connect, we house the SHIIP (Senior Health Insurance Information Program) provided by the NC Department of Insurance in Davidson County. The SHIIP Program provides FREE, unbiased Medicare information and counseling.

We have trained volunteers that can help you better understand your options including, Medicare Advantage, Medicare Part D prescription drug plans, Medicare supplements, Extra Help, Medicare Savings Program, and more. SHIIP Counselors don’t sell or endorse insurance plans, their goal is to provide information so you can make informed decisions about the coverage that best works for you.

Medicare beneficiaries have the opportunity to review their current coverage or make changes for the upcoming year. Navigating Medicare doesn’t have to be something you do alone 🤝. Our SHIIP volunteers are proud to serve Davidson County helping individuals and caregivers better understand their options and connect with the information they need. ✅

Today we are highlighting one of the many faces that make Davidson Medical Ministries special- Board of Directors member Reid Thornburg❤️💙!

Reid is the chair of the Program Operations Committee on the Board. They play an important role in evaluating existing programs, exploring future opportunities and identifying ways to enhance the services we provide to individuals and families throughout Davidson County. Outside of DMM, Reid serves as a Clinic Administrator for Women’s Health at Novant Health. Before that, he brings 35 years of experience working in community-based mental and behavioral health services.

Reid’s journey with Davidson Medical Ministries began in 2012 when former Executive Director Sandy Motley considered him to serve on the Board in a liaison role due to his background in behavioral health. Guided by his faith and desire to help others, Reid believes in improving access to essential resources, strengthening community-based services, and opening doors to opportunities that improve the quality of life 🙌 . One of the most rewarding parts of Reid’s involvement is witnessing the growth and expansion of medical and clinical services in both Lexington and Thomasville. Seeing more individuals gain access to the care and support they need has made his service meaningful 💙❤️.

Looking ahead, Reid hopes to see DMM continue to expand its reach through community partnerships 🤝, grants, and financial 💵, and social support 🗣️. He recognizes the importance of bringing hands-on service to smaller underserved communities throughout DC, where accessing resources can often be challenging. Most importantly, he hopes future generations will carry on the tradition of neighbors helping neighbors. Ensuring that compassionate care and vital resources remain available for years to come ❤️💙.

We had a wonderful time participating in the Community Resources Fair yesterday hosted by our good friends at Davidson County Senior Services ❤️.

It was a great opportunity to connect with seniors throughout the county, sharing valuable information, and help individuals discover resources and services that make meaningful differences in their lives and their family members 💙.

We enjoyed having Jeanie Myers Schepisi with the NC Department of Insurance speak with seniors about the SHIIP Program (Seniors Health Insurance Information Program, housed at Davidson Medical Ministries & DC Connect in Davidson County. Through SHIIP, our trained volunteers provide free, unbiased Medicare information and counseling, helping individuals understand their coverage options and make informed decisions. A reminder that Medication Open Enrollment is now happening through December 7.

A special thank you to Davidson County Senior Services for hosting and bringing our community together. We're grateful for opportunities to build connections with our fellow seniors to share vital resources and build a healthier Davidson County 🙌❤️.

Exciting new renovations continuing to happen right here at our new home, the HUB ❤️🙌! Some rooms and our receptionist area are taking shape. Office furniture and desks being moved in. As everything is coming together, we continue to transform our new office space into the welcoming environment it's meant to be 💙.

It’s more than an office, but a one-stop shop where individuals and families obtain access to community resources, organizations, partners, and other support systems. We're all about serving those to create new opportunities, remove those barriers, build relationships, and make a difference in the lives of those we serve 🤝.

We’re super excited about the HUB and look forward to sharing the continued progress as we work toward building a healthier, more connected Davidson County ❤️💙.

Today we are highlighting one of our clients who has been impacted by the life-changing services of Davidson Medical Ministries! ❤️💙

Meet Stephen Byerly,

Born and raised in Lexington, NC. Stephen enjoys spending time outdoors whether it’s four-wheeling , fishing 🎣, or riding his scooter . However, he has faced challenges that made everyday life difficult. Nearly 25 years ago, Steven got into an accident that left him unable to work. He’s navigated financial hardships, hearing loss which has made it difficult to communicate and access services, and challenges managing multiple medical appointments.

That’s where Davidson Medical Ministries and DC Connect came into his life. Through his connection with our medical clinic, now operated by Kintegra Health, Stephen found more than healthcare access. People who were willing to listen, navigate those challenges, and connect him with resources to improve his quality of life ❤️💙. He has received help by obtaining glasses, hearing aids, transportation 🚗 to medical appointments and understanding his Medicare options.

When asked how these services have impacted his life, Stephen shared “ I cannot even begin to explain” adding ‘They have helped me so much” 🙌🤝! Today, he’s looking toward the future with hopes of finding stable housing and exploring cochlear implants.

Stephen’s story is a reminder that every person deserves the opportunity with a healthier life with the right services and community resources ❤️. Building relationships, restoring hope, and helping our neighbors make meaningful steps towards a healthier stable future 💙.

Today we are highlighting one of the many faces that make Davidson Medical Ministries special- Church and Community Relations Committee Member Vicky Gray ❤️💙!

During her 31 years as an educator, Vicky saw that caring for students meant caring for the whole child. When families could not afford medical 💊 or dental care 🦷, she found a resource in DMM. Whether it was a painful tooth or a sore throat needing treatment, she saw the need for how access to care could make a difference in one of her student's lives 🙌❤️.

When she retired in 2007, she wanted to give back to the organization that helped her students over the years. Sue Perell Beck, then Chair of DMM’s Church and Community Relations Committee invited her to join the fundraising planning to help with the Spring Fling 🌸🌸. It became her first fundraising event with DMM, a tradition she has continued to plan since.

Vicky has watched DMM grow and serve more families. Through all the changes, she remains proud to be a part of its mission and work alongside the kind, dedicated people who make that work possible ❤️💙!

We were delighted to host this morning’s Lexington Area Chamber of Commerce (NC) breakfast in our new office and HUB space🙌! It was great to connect with our community partners and local businesses with some great food and the coffee ☕️ courtesy of Black Chicken Coffee.

Janise shared our mission and vision for the HUB, and everyone toured the facility to see the space taking shape.

The HUB represents hope, connection, and a healing place for individuals and families to find support and community resources ❤️. Our building will bring light 💡 into darkness for people going through difficult times, showing them they don’t have to face them alone.

Thank you to everyone who joined us this morning and shared in our excitement of what’s ahead. Together we’re building a healthier, more connected Davidson County! 🤝❤️💙
