Today we are highlighting one of the many faces that make Davidson Medical Ministries special- Church and Community Relations Committee and Board Member Martha Keel. ❤️💙

Martha has been a part of the DMM family since the early 1990s as a Board Member and involved in fundraising through the Church and Community Relations Committee. Before retiring, Martha dedicated 41 years to education, 37 of them teaching kindergarten and first grade at Welcome Elementary School. Martha remembers the days when DMM operated out of its original small brick building. Not long after, she began volunteering in the newly built Zeb and Winnie Green Building.

Martha believes every person has dignity and worth and should not be denied healthcare. 🩵She believes in the DMM philosophy of caring for the whole person and striving to meet the different needs individuals and families face throughout their lives.

She has too many memories to choose from. From a beautiful summer evening concert at Weathervane Winery with perfect weather, to the excitement of preparing for the Spring Fling silent auction, to serving Thanksgiving meals to DMM clients, Martha has experienced countless moments that remind her why this mission matters. 💓💕

Martha is excited to see DMM enter its new chapter continuing to grow and expand🌱. Her hope is that, in her own small way, she has helped DMM improve the lives of residents in Davidson County.

This week, we officially began renovating the former Family Services of Davidson County building, transforming this space into the HUB, 💙! Right now the transformation is happening before our very eyes.

Old flooring coming up as we prepare for fresh, brand-new carpeting. 🔨
Walls being repaired, patched, primed, and painted. 🎨🖌️
Technicians working on overhead wiring, electrical fixtures, and ceiling components. 🛠️⚒️
Other behind-the-scenes work is underway to prepare our space for stronger connections.

The HUB will be a place where organizations, resources, and people come together. Helping individuals and families find the support they need to move forward. A building is being renovated. A community is being connected. A new future is being built. 🌱

Yesterday, we had our final Getting Ahead class at Reeds United Methodist Church. While it was bittersweet to close this chapter, it was a day filled with reflection, gratitude, and hope for a brighter future ❤️❤️. Getting Ahead has been so much more than completing a class, giving people the tools, support, connections, and confidence to move forward and create a vision for success.

To celebrate, our participants wrote heartfelt notes of thanks to Reeds United Methodist Church for opening its doors and providing a welcoming space, and to our wonderful teachers Valerie and Miriam for sharing their knowledge, encouragement, guidance, and compassion. Their support created a place where people could be heard, feel valued, and empowered. 💙💙

The special moment of the night came when participants shared with us their Vision Books. Each member created a vision where they hope to see themselves 10 years from now 📖. Putting their dreams, goals, and hopes for the future on paper. Their stories are a reminder that it’s never too late or impossible to dream big, set new goals, and reach for the stars ⭐. With the right tools, guidance, support, and determination, new possibilities can begin.

We are so proud of each and every one of our participants who went on this journey. We wish you nothing but true success, happiness, and continued growth in your future endeavors. We can’t wait to see all that you accomplish ❤️❤️! Thank you to everyone who helped Getting Ahead be a meaningful part of these individuals' journey.

Thirty-five years ago, Dr. James Slyman founded Davidson Medical Ministries with a powerful vision: to make quality healthcare accessible to Davidson County residents, regardless of the ability to pay. That vision has stayed at the forefront of everything we do, as we continue to build hope, change lives, and provide compassionate care. Through collaboration with dedicated community volunteers, partners, churches, and leaders, we’ve worked together to break down barriers and create brighter tomorrows for the people of Davidson County. Today, we're blessed to make another giant step towards transforming lives. 🩷🩷

On August 20, 2026, Davidson Medical Ministries purchased the former Family Services of Davidson County, Inc facility at 1303 Greensboro Street Extension. This new space brings us closer to our vision of a healthier, more connected community. ❤️🙌 This milestone is the result of a strategic planning journey from 2019 with over 100 stakeholders. It continues the collaboration vision that led to DC Connect in 2022. Our mission remains the same, but we're evolving to better connect our community to the resources they need. 🌱

The HUB will bring organizations and essential resources together. From food pantries and housing assistance to crisis support, recovery programs, behavioral health services, and healthcare, helping individuals and families find the connections they need to move forward. The greatest impact comes from offering a hand up instead of a hand out, walking alongside someone on their journey.

We can’t do this alone. Whether it's volunteering, partnering with us, or investing in our vision, new beginnings are not built by one person, but by an entire community working together. 🩷 The future is now, so join us in getting connected as we transform this space for our loving community! ⭐

Today we are highlighting one of the many faces that make Davidson Medical Ministries special- Board Chair Paul Jarrett. ❤️❤️

Since 2018, Paul has served as the Board Chair. Helping guide the work of the Board of Directors by facilitating meetings, working side by side with our Executive Director, Janise Hurley, and leading important business decisions that keep DMM moving forward.

Paul’s journey began with the Board by being invited to join. As he joined, he learned more about the ministry and its impact. He witnessed it firsthand and became deeply passionate about the organization's mission. His most meaningful moment on the board came after COVID, when DMM expanded its focus beyond healthcare to address the social determinants of health. By helping meet basic needs like water, food, shelter, and warmth, 🥫🚰🏠🫶 DMM has been able to improve overall health and well-being throughout our community. Being a part of that transformation has been rewarding for Paul.

Paul points to the collaboration among the Board of Directors. He values the diverse backgrounds and experiences each member brings from healthcare, business, finance, and community service. Together, he says they shape the future of Davidson Medical Ministries with a shared vision and continue to make thoughtful, meaningful decisions that benefit those we serve.

Paul’s hope is to continue reaching as many people as possible while helping them achieve healthier, more stable lives. He believes in offering a hand up rather than a handout, empowering individuals with the support and resources they need to build a brighter future. ❤️❤️
