Alright Lexington County 4-H! It's been about 2 days since I posted about the Crochet Workshop and tried to impart in the strongest terms of the importance that anyone wishing for me to enter their project resulting from this workshop into the South Carolina State Fair, that they register for free at the provided Eventbrite link. What makes this so time critical is that the State Fair closes the entry window for all projects on September 1st which is this coming Tuesday. There seemed to be some pretty good buzz about the workshop and the Fair entry part, but since I opened the window, we've had all of 3 entries come through and only 8 total views of the entry page :(
The instructor we have lined up is very excited to share her knowledge of crocheting and is possibly thinking of continuing with a monthly club if the interest is there.
I'm hoping in the coming days that more entries come flooding in because I think this is going to be a lot of fun and can span all of our age groups. Please do not wait until the last minute as I have paperwork on my end that I have to work out with the fair folks and I don't want to be doing that at 10 o'clock Monday night πŸ˜±πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’«

Sign up for the workshop to make a project for the SC State Fair!

Here's one I mentioned the other day and now the flyer has been finalized so I'm sending it out! This will be for the interest meeting for a homeschool club for the Lexington/W Columbia area. Meeting will take place on Thursday, September 10th at 10am at the Lexington County Library main branch on Augusta Rd in Lexington. Questions? You know what to do :)

I have not sent out a reminder post for this new club's interest meeting coming up in early September but felt I should. We've got about 9 families signed up for the meeting so far, so click on the link below and get your free ticket (it's really just a means from which I can determine what space to use for the meeting and so I have enough copies of information) and we hope to see you there!

Okay Lexington County 4-H! You've been asking about an archery club pretty much ever since I started this job several years ago, so we found a club leader who is very excited and has some great ideas. I think y'all are going to really like her and she brings a ton of archery experience to the table; she'll be taking the required training so she'll be ready for the new program year. That being said, we're going to be putting on an interest/organizational meeting to take the temperature of the county and see what kind of interest we really have. I do understand that the new program year has not started yet, but put this one on your calendar so you can see if this is something your kids would be interested in - obviously bring your kids too lol. More information to follow as to whether we're going to have the kids bring what equipment they might have, based on that we'll know if anyone has their own equipment or if I'm going to have to get creative and find a generous benefactor to help us out with equipment. Put it on your calendar folks! Questions - fire away!

Everyone out there is doing an excellent job in resisting the temptation to register for 4-H prior to that September 1st date. I've only had one come across my desk which I politely sent back with the instructions about not wanting anyone to get double billed withing a couple weeks. Way to go Lexington County 4-H!

Dolly was proud of her 4-H roots, she will be missed β™₯️

Today we mourn the loss of an American icon, a beloved philanthropist and a proud 4-H alumna, Dolly Parton. Her extraordinary life was defined not only by her incredible talent, but by her unwavering generosity, compassion and commitment to helping others.

For generations of young people, Dolly embodied what it means to use your gifts in service of others. From her roots in 4-H to her lifelong investment in literacy, education and community, she showed us that true leadership is grounded in humility, kindness, and purpose. As Dolly once said, "storms make trees take deeper roots." πŸ’š

A proud 4-H alumna, she reminded us that challenges can strengthen us and help us grow. That wisdom will continue to inspire young people and communities for generations to come. We extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends, and the millions whose lives she touched. Her legacy of hope, generosity, and service will live on. πŸ€

I know I put a teaser out the other day about this one! We're going to try something that I've been wanting to do since I started as an agent. We have an awesome instructor and we're going to be learning how to crochet and making a project that will be entered into the SC State Fair in October!

What's the catch you ask? Well, the deadline for entering projects into the SC State Fair is only a week away on September the 1st. You need to register for this workshop at the Eventbrite link below well before September 1st so I can take your information and enter you into the Fair under Lexington County 4-H. Make sense? Not to worry, I will be repeating this so many times over the next week that you'll be able to repeat it verbatim and possibly turn it into a cute song :)

All this fun and learning will be happening on Thursday, September 24th at 5:30pm right here at the extension office! See flyer for me details. Please please please go to the Eventbrite link right now to sign up!

UPDATE!! We have a meeting space! Pass it on! Lexington County Library Swansea Branch at 199 N Lawrence Ave in Swansea at 11am! I know we originally said 10am but the library doesn't open until 11am on Tues and Thursdays πŸ˜‚.
Updated flyer and post coming out when I get back up to my office from Swansea πŸ˜‰

Alright Lexington County 4-H! We've got another 4-H Homeschool Club in the making down in the Swansea area! Again, we're going to have an informational / organizational meeting on Thursday, August 27th at 10am to gage interest and see how you'd like to proceed as this is a member driven kind of thing. We're also looking for a place to meet for this initial get together and eventually for the regular club gatherings so keep that in mind.
We have a club leader who has lead a club while living in NY but we'll also be looking for other parents who would like to get involved and help with the running of the club - all to be discussed at this initial meeting.
As always, reach out with questions and concerns. I'm not going to do an Eventbrite for this one, but as we get closer I will be asking for some form of RSVP so we've got an idea of participation.
