Today is the 82nd Anniversary of the D-Day Invasion of Normandy, France, during WWII.

The best way to memorialize these American heroes is to forever embody their spirit, to continue to live by their example, to never forget the debt we owe ALL of them for their sacrifice. Our debt to them can never be fully repaid but our responsibility to them remains. These men embodied true fighting spirit. Today and everyday that follows, the legacy of their spirit is in our hands. It is up to us to remember them, honor them, and to ensure the legacy of their spirit lives on.

Please take a moment to remember the brave military men and women of our Greatest Generation and the sacrifices that were made that day.

🇺🇸 DID YOU KNOW? 🇺🇸

Many people believe they can only join the VFW Auxiliary if their veteran family member is still living.

That’s not true.

If your parent, grandparent, spouse, sibling, child, or grandchild was a veteran who served overseas in a qualifying location, you may be eligible for the VFW Auxiliary—even if they have passed on.

The VFW Auxiliary is one way families continue the legacy of those who served. Through volunteer work, support for veterans and military families, patriotic education, scholarships, and community service, we help ensure their sacrifices are never forgotten.

Every veteran leaves behind a story.

The VFW Auxiliary helps keep those stories alive.

If military service is part of your family’s history, you may already be eligible to join.

Questions about eligibility? Send us a message—we’d be happy to help.

Former U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Public Affairs Specialist Hank Heusinkveld spent 14 months reporting on the Corps' efforts to help rebuild Afghanistan from October of 2009 to December of 2010. Join him as he gives a pictorial presentation that shows how the Corps hired Afghans to rebuild their country and to mentor Afghan engineers to rebuild their badly damaged infrastructure left untouched after years of fighting. Hank will be sharing his story in the Library Event Space, Tuesday, June 9 at 5:30 PM.
