August Landscape and Macro SIG Field Trip to Ritter Farm
On August 10, about 20 members of the Landscape and Marco SIGs met at Ritter Farm in Harbeson to photograph the flowers. We were able to arrive starting at 7 AM. This gave us calm conditions during the cooler part of the day. This year the farm did not plant nearly as many sunflowers as previous years but they did have several rows of colorful zinnias. The group was able to photograph a variety of subjects including the farm’s goats, birds and bugs, and close-ups. There were also creative techniques used. By 9:00 everyone was feeling the heat and humidity and finished shooting.

Joanna Macaulay
Joanna Macaulay has volunteered to be the official photographer for the River Concert Series for 13 years and St Mary’s College of Maryland has decided to end the concerts at their location on July 24th. Joanna is sad, like many other St Mary’s County residents and visitors. The mostly classical and Jazz concerts began in 1999 and averaged 4500 concert goers per concert. It was based on outdoor concert series like Tanglewood Music Festival. The music director, Jeffrey Silberschlag, is currently looking for new local venues, so locals haven’t given up hope yet.

Joanna had the privilege of meeting many well known musicians and many takented orchestra musicans over the years and the conductor. She has photographed Maureen McGovern, Broadway stars like Hilary Kole and Kate Baldwin, N’Kenge, Pedro Giraudo, and more. Joanna has located her digital concert photos back to 2002.

Pictures: Chesapeake Orchestra, Maureen McGovern, N’Kenge, Brian Ganz, pianist with Jeffrey Silberschlag, conductor.

July Landscape SIG Field Trip to Delaware State Fair

The annual state fair photo shoot brought out 7 SIG members on July 27. We met in the early evening and discussed what we planned to shoot. We strolled around the carnival grounds to get a feel for the opportunities as the lights came on. The 3 rides with the best opportunities were the Ferris wheel, the Zipper and the swings. When it got dark, the longer exposures allowed us to explore ICM (Intentional Camera Movement). We talked about the different subjects and techniques. Every picture is unique as they are a function of ISO, aperture, exposure time and movement. This year we were able to include the fireworks in a couple of shots. It was another fun and educational evening resulting in many good images.

Citizen Photographer Exhibition Opens at the Lewes Public Library

The Citizen Photographer exhibition, which was recently on view at the Delaware Art Museum, will travel to the Lewes Public Library, 111 Adams Avenue, where it will be on display throughout the month of August.

An Opening Reception will be held on Saturday, August 1, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend.

Citizen Photographer is part of a statewide initiative connected to the nation's 250th anniversary celebration. Photographers from across Delaware were invited to submit images that explore what it means to be a Delawarean, encouraging participants to reflect on themes of identity, place, community, and civic life. Together, the photographs help tell Delaware's story through the unique perspectives of its residents.

The Coastal Camera Club is well represented in this inspiring exhibition. We encourage members to attend the opening reception, experience this thought-provoking collection of photographs, and congratulate the Coastal Camera Club photographers whose work was selected for the exhibition.
