On behalf of the Leland Fire Department, it is with deep sadness that we acknowledge the passing of former Assistant Fire Chief Jerry Barber. His commitment, leadership, and honor helped shape this department. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Barber family, his friends, and all who were touched by his service. Rest easy, Chief Barber. Your watch is complete. With deepest sympathy, Chief Dquan Wilson, Leland Fire Department.

CEUs are very important when it comes to municipal codes, especially since they are constantly changing and being updated. Continuing education ensures that code enforcement personnel remain knowledgeable, current, and prepared to properly enforce the latest requirements.

🚑 Meet the Leadership 🚑

We’re proud to introduce Keith Boston Sr., Operations Manager for Washington County.

Keith began his career in the fire service as a volunteer firefighter in 1991 before joining the Greenville Fire Department in 1996, where he has proudly served for 30 years in multiple leadership roles and currently has the privilege of serving as Interim Fire Chief. He began his EMS career in 2003 and joined Pafford EMS in 2017 as an EMT/FTO, Shift Captain, and Supervisor. In 2024, he was promoted to Operations Manager, where he now works alongside exceptional EMS professionals who answer the call when their communities need them most.

His passion for emergency services started early.

“When I was 8 years old, living in Memphis with my grandmother, every time I heard a siren, I would run down the street to see if it was an ambulance, fire truck, or police vehicle. My love and passion started at an early age. It’s my calling.”

For Keith, there is no greater honor than making a positive difference in someone’s life during their greatest time of need. He believes every emergency is an opportunity to serve with compassion, courage, and excellence.

As Operations Manager, Keith oversees daily operations, personnel, staffing, fleet readiness, and policy compliance. His priority is ensuring every ambulance is ready to respond while developing strong leaders, mentoring employees, and maintaining the highest standards of patient care.

His leadership philosophy is simple:
“Service before self. Lead by example. Treat every person with dignity and respect. Take care of your employees, and they will take care of the patients and you.”

Keith’s goal is to inspire those around him to become better than they were yesterday by creating an environment built on teamwork, trust, respect, and professionalism. He is passionate about ensuring every employee has the tools, training, and leadership needed to succeed while supporting them through difficult times.

One piece of advice that has guided Keith throughout his career is to “keep moving when others would stop,” a mindset that aligns with his favorite Bible verse, Colossians 3:23: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.”

When he’s away from work, Keith enjoys spending quality time with his family, traveling, and fishing—moments that remind him of the importance of balance and appreciating life’s greatest blessings.

Thank you, Keith, for your years of dedicated service and for leading with humility, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to our team, patients, and communities.
