NMOP fosters collaborative music-making in a beautiful rural environment where aspiring musicians may explore and grow, creating contemporary music.

New Music On the Point is a festival for new chamber music, with opportunities for composers and performers in degree programs or early in their careers.

ANNOUNCING: NMOP PRESENTS–SONGBOOKS | JUNE 12, 2026 | 4:00 PM SONG WORKSHOP |5:30 PM NMOP VOICES CONCERT | Main Street Landing Performing Arts Center | 60 Lake St | Burlington, VT 05401

Song Workshop 4 PM: Singers are invited to attend a workshop on voice technique and singing styles across musical genres, led by NMOP faculty Tony Arnold and Sharon Harms. Learn a Ukrainian folksong and share good vibes!

NMOP Voices Concert 5:30 PM: an immersive, exciting performance of the iconic John Cage “Songbooks”. Wander freely through our intriguing maze of song and sounds!

We’ve almost wrapped on week 1 of 2 for our June Festival! Unsurprisingly, it has been a beautiful and full week of performances, premieres, workshops, presentations, and wonderful food. Thank you everyone for all their wonderful work and for attending!

Next week we’ll have more Dinner and a Show at NMOP, NMOP 2026 Premieres, AND NMOP presents: Songbooks. Plenty of opportunities to join in on all the fun! More soon! 🎶🎵

Last night we had our first round of premieres! We are always so thrilled to hear these incredible new pieces by our composer participants excellently executed by our performer participants and faculty.

We have two more concerts of premieres on June 10 and 13 at 7:30 PM at the Salisbury Meetinghouse. No tickets or fee! We’d love to see you there!

Join us for a concert of works from the entire career of this Pulitzer Prize-winning composer! After the concert, follow us back to NMOP’s campus for a delicious Cuban-inspired dinner, followed by dancing and salsa lessons (no experience necessary)!

~NMOP SPOTLIGHT SERIES 2~
Next up in our Spotlight Series, we’re highlighting RE:duo (.duomusic), featuring Wilson Poffenberger (saxophone) and Elsie Bae Han (viola) from Stevens Point, WI, and Providence, RI. Swipe left to see their blistering performance of Landscape of Fear (2014) by Marcos Balter, originally for sopranino saxophone and piccolo trumpet, performed on alto saxophone and viola at Bowdoin College on April 19, 2025.

What excites you most about your musical background and the music you play?

Our work centers around collaborating with composers over a long period of time, so that we can have as much dialogue with each composer as possible during the creation of a work. A lot of our repertoire explores extra-musical elements, such as theatre and choreography, that push the bounds of concert music. We love having the opportunity to give these pieces life as we perform them over the course of several years. Our favorite part of the collaboration process is the moment a piece really feels like it’s as much ours as the composer who wrote it.

Tell us about the pieces you’re excited to play for NMOP!

We are super excited to work with and meet new composers at NMOP. Looking forward to digging into participant pieces!

What are you most looking forward to about NMOP?

We’re looking forward to playing and communing with other musicians in nature. We both love hiking, going on soundwalks, and being by water.
