🌟 A Day ON, Not a Day Off! 🌟
Today, the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration Committee of Leesburg joins the nation in honoring a true visionary. Dr. King remains the only African American and non-president to be honored with a federal holiday—a testament to the monumental impact of his life, his message, and his sacrifice.

We move beyond just "remembering" his words; we revere the sacrifice and the selfless service he provided to the entire world. 🌏✊🏾

This year, our theme is: 🎤 Voices of Change: Igniting Hope, Power & Purpose.

Dr. King’s legacy is a call to action. Today is not a day off, but a day ON! We encourage every member of our community to find a way to give back. Whether it’s helping a neighbor, volunteering, or mentoring a youth, we must SERVE ON PURPOSE.

Let us use our voices to ignite hope and our actions to demonstrate power and purpose.

How are you serving today? Tell us in the comments! 👇🏾

Congratulations! Yolanda Renee King, the granddaughter of Martin Luther King Jr., is continuing her grandfather’s legacy at just 15 years old. She wrote We Dream a World, a picture book meant to inspire readers of all ages to dream big, act peacefully, and stand up for justice in their communities.

Yolanda has been inspired by her grandparents, Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King, and she feels a responsibility to continue their work. She often speaks at schools and events, including the March on Washington, encouraging young people to use their voices for good.

Her message is simple: even small actions can make a difference. By sharing her story and ideas, Yolanda hopes to motivate the next generation of dreamers to take peaceful action and make the world a more fair and equal place.

Her book was released January 2, 2024, and is already inspiring readers everywhere.

As we kick off King Holiday week, I am thinking not only of my father, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., but also of my mother, Coretta Scott King—the architect and steward of the King legacy.

My mother understood that my father’s work could not live only in memory. She insisted it must be protected, taught, and practiced. Because of her vision, The King Center exists not simply to honor what was, but to equip people to live out what must be.

Together, my parents gave the world more than words. They offered a philosophy and a way of life—rooted in nonviolence, justice, truth, and love—that calls us to create the Beloved Community in our time.

As this week begins, my hope is that we move beyond remembrance and recommit ourselves to action: to learning, to practicing nonviolence, and to building the kind of world my parents believed was possible—one grounded in dignity, compassion, and shared responsibility.

I hope you will join us—virtually or in person—as we reflect, learn, and continue this work together: https://thekingcenter.pulse.ly/0cm6aq93a3
