If you want to see the reality of how influential people purposely wrongfully prosecute young men, I recommend watching this ESPN documentary. It is a raw and powerful look behind the curtain of criminal justice…perverted. These young men are not the first, it has been happening for years. This is why it is so critical to have an open heart and to withhold judgement about incarceration and prison. You see what they want you to see. Heartbreaking…for lives affected who have been deemed guilty until proven innocent.

This film examines the racial and other tensions that fueled a scandal in 2006 when a stripper accused three Duke University lacrosse players of r**e.

WEBSITE CONTENT IDEAS FOR KYLAN’S LIGHT. We are building out our new website and want to see if there are ideas you may have? What information is to be housed on the site? We are planning a newsletter and general information like TDOC Statistical Abstract reports but we were also thinking of helpful sites for people returning home such as transitional housing, local help centers in your area, workforce development opportunities near you, apprenticeship programs as well as local mental health and substance abuse programs that would be available.

We would also have social media links and current legislation affecting various areas of criminal justice. WHAT ELSE are we missing to get started?

How will the family advisory board be established now that it is passed into law?

It looks like the Family Advisory Board is going to be a reality in Tennessee. Headed to them Governor Lee’s desk for his signature as of today. Thank you to Representative Boyd and Senator Hatcher for your willingness to do the right thing and stand up to poor leadership in the TDOC.

I hope this bill will give families answers that they need and the help offenders as they prepare for reentry into our communities. God knows we want the VERY BEST and most well adjusted version of these men coming back home. We want them to be able to have the life and coping skills needed to care for themselves and to not go back into the revolving doors of our prisons.

The Family Advisory Board has passed the full house and awaiting the Senator floor vote later this week. 90 ayes and 0 nays. It’s almost unheard of to pass both chambers unanimously in two straight years…but these issues are critical to bring about awareness to a topic that most people don’t understand or shy away from.

Thank you Representative Clark Boyd for carrying this legislation…I am hopeful that the families who are desperate for help will begin to be heard for the real issues they are facing with the TDOC.

COST OF INCARCERATION 10 year forecasting study: seeking opinions and insight for top 3-5 things you want to see addressed in incarceration over the next 10 years. We all know that there is need for mental health and substance abuse programs for offenders but also there are needs for Correctional staff. These two people groups coexist and we cannot address one without the other.

We want to address spending and stewardship of taxpayer money to either; build new prisons, execute prison alternative options, build out reentry program support locations in multiple areas of the state, prioritize “results based contracting” with CoreCivic locations, etc…any and all ideas should be shared. Everyone says they don’t have a voice, well here is your chance…DON’T WASTE IT!!!!
