Fall is the best excuse to get outside before winter has other plans. 🍁

A few of our favorite things to do with kids this time of year:
🎃 Pick and decorate pumpkins
🍎 Hit up a local apple orchard or farmers market
🍂 Jump in a leaf pile
🔥 End the evening around a bonfire with s'mores
🌽 Find a corn maze and see who makes it out first

Today is a great day to discover something new. 🌍

Columbus Day/Indigenous Peoples' Day calls us to look more closely at the world around us and the history that shaped it.

Pick up a book about a culture different from your own. Take a different route home. Ask your kids what they're curious about and actually follow that thread together.

Curiosity has no age limit, and neither does learning something that changes the way you see the world.

There's something special about the traditions that show up every single fall without fail. 🍂

Maybe it's the same apple orchard every year. A specific recipe that only gets made when the leaves start turning. A movie that has to be watched with blankets and hot chocolate.

Whatever it is, those traditions stick with kids longer than we realize.

What many people don't realize is how deeply domestic violence affects the children in the home, even when they aren't the direct target.

Children who witness or live in the presence of domestic violence can experience:
Anxiety, depression, and difficulty regulating emotions
Struggles with trust and forming healthy relationships
Behavioral changes at home and at school
Long-term impacts on how they view relationships as adults

A couple months into the school year and the routine that started so strong may already be slipping a little. 😅

That's completely normal, but it's also a good time to reset before old habits fully creep back in.

A few simple places to start:
• Revisit bedtime; a tired kid is a struggling kid
• Bring back the morning routine they can do independently so mornings feel less chaotic
• Rebuild that after-school wind down: snack, outside time, quiet time before homework
• Anchor the evening around something consistent like dinner together when possible

It doesn't have to be perfect. Consistent beats perfect every time. 💙
