American Legion Auxiliary Lawrence Unit 28 Department of Illinois visited Veterans at Haven of Bridgeport. Kyra Griesemer received the Mildred R. Knoles Scholarship from the American Legion Auxiliary Lawrence Unit 28 Department of Illinois. This scholarship is given to students continuing their education. American Legion Auxiliary Lawrence Unit 28 visited our Veterans ar Haven of Bridgeport. All Veterans received Twinkies and Ding Dongs along with pictures colored by kids from our Patriotism Kids Day. President Beverly Sheley of the American Legion Auxiliary Lawrence Unit 28, Department of Illinois, presented Lawrenceville High School Senior Neilan Bickers with the Ada Muckelstone Memorial Scholarship.

Lawrenceville Mayor David Courtney signed the Poppy Proclamation and made the first poppy donation to the American Legion Auxiliary Lawrence Unit 28 Department of Illinois. Mayor Courtney proclaimed National Poppy Day on Friday, May 22. Poppy donations will take place Friday, May 22 and Saturday, May 23 at Walmart in Lawrenceville from 8:00 AM to 4:00PM and a bucket brigade in Bridgeport from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Saturday, May 23 a bucket brigade will be at 12th and Lexington in Lawrenceville. L-R: President Beverly Sheley, Mayor David Courtney and Poppy Chairperson Rose Hart.

American Legion Auxiliary Lawrence Unit 28 Department of Illinois members participated in the Be The One Walk. This Walk is to bring awareness to the public regarding Veteran su***de. Donations go to Veterans thinking of su***de to get them help and assists Veterans families that have committed su***de. This is an eight mile walk from Flora, Illinois to Louisville, Illinois. Thank you to these wonderful ladies and everyone that participated in the Be The One Walk.
