Lawrence Public Library District Serving Lawrence County, IL The Lawrence Public Library District is one of only 5 libraries in Illinois serving an entire county.

Additionally, all cardholders have access to an infinite number of items from all over the world through our membership in the Illinois Heartland Library System. We offer monthly adult programming September - April, our successful Summer Reading Program in June and July, a book club that meets once a month, as well as offering eBooks through the Southern Illinois Libraries on the Go consortium. We have access to several different databases. Our friendly, knowledgeable staff can help you find what you need.

The library book club read John Steinbeck's Travels with Charley for October. This non-fiction work of the 1960's chronicles Steinbeck's trip across America with his poodle Charley. He says he wanted to get reacquainted with the country and talk to people about their outlooks. He enjoys nature, cities, and sharing food, drinks, and conversation with strangers. In his custom truck camper he encounters bears, road troubles, and kindness. Overall the tone is a bit pessimistic as Steinbeck uses humor and beautifully written passages to describe his view of America at the time. The book club gave this book 4.67 out of 5 stars while the Goodreads rating is 4.09.

The Friends of the Library have partnered with the city of Lawrenceville to establish a lending library in the city park. It’s free! Anyone may take a book or share a book. The book box was constructed in a joint effort by Lynda, Conrad and Emily Buchanan.
