Discover how leaves, roots, bark, and flowers become vibrant, lasting color in this immersive, handsâon workshop for ages 10+. (Participants 18 and under require guardian approval. Waivers required.)
Using plant materials gathered during our earlyâseason foraging, youâll learn to extract, prepare, and apply natural dyes â and explore the science, stories, and cultural traditions behind them. Because weâll be working with real pigments, expect a little color on your clothes and hands⌠itâs all part of the fun.
Through guided activities, youâll dive into:
Traditional dyeâmaking techniques used across cultures
How natural pigments are processed and fixed for longâlasting color
The cultural significance of plantâbased dyes throughout history
Responsible earlyâseason harvesting for craft and survival skills
From the first crush of color to the final dip of fabric, youâll experience the full journey of transforming raw plant materials into meaningful, usable dyes â and take home creations that connect you to centuries of human ingenuity.
