Comradeship and friendships bonds are very strong when forged during wartime.
Sincere condolences for your loss Larry Lyman.
IN MEMORIUM
The call to duty is a sacred and respected honor regardless of what country’s uniform you might wear. This is especially significant when US servicemen and women serve with their counterparts from other countries.
VFW Post 261 Life Legacy member Larry Lyman experienced this during his extended tour assignment in Vietnam.
Larry ‘s Australian Army counterpart was Corporal Geoff Campbell. Their relationship started in 1968 and continued until May 23 when Geoff passed away.
Geoff’s wife Vicki was an Australian Army officer (nurse) but sadly also passed away several years ago.
Over 50+ years, Geoff and his family members (even some of Geoff’s Aussie friends) came to the US and stayed with Larry for months at a time.
Geoff was his regional representative (like our District Commander) for the Australian Veteran foreign service (our VFW). During one visit, Geoff and Vicki presented their Post Australian flag and citation to the American Legion Post Larry was a member of (Albany, NY).
Australia has lost a son, but the world has lost a special soul.
Rest In Peace, mate.
Geoff was 82.
